Job Summary Position Title: Maintenance Mechanic Department: Department of Transportation Location: San Francisco‑Oakland Bay Bridge, Toll Plaza Rm. 103, Oakland, CA 94608, Alameda County Salary: $5,422.00 – $7,136.00 per month Job Code: JC-496559 Final Filing Date: 11/5/2025
Responsibilities
Operate, perform preventive maintenance, and repair heating, air conditioning, ventilation, duct work, plumbing, lighting, electrical, and carpentry tasks.
Obtain water treatment certification, back‑flow license, and change out irrigation valves and controllers.
Assist Bridge Maintenance crews at heights up to 600 ft and on a boat up to 200 ft.
May work varying shifts, including night shift, as required.
Travel throughout District 4 as needed.
Minimum Requirements
Required skill, experience, and certifications as detailed in the Class Specification.
Valid driver’s license with unrestricted Class C license.
California state examination/Employment Application STD 678 completed.
Eligibility
New to state civil services must be on the State Exam list.
Eligible for lateral transfer, reinstatement, SROA, or surplus.
Eligibility determined by score on the Maintenance Mechanic exam.
