The ESL Instructor will report directly to the ABS Director, providing English instruction to limited English proficient adult students, including curriculum development, evaluation of students’ progress, and maintenance of all students’ records. Provide English as a Second Language instruction for adults enrolled in the ABS Program, from Basic to Advanced levels. Employ a hands-on approach to teaching, focusing on reading, writing, grammar, listening, and speaking proficiency. Administer and analyze pre and post assessments to determine students’ proficiency foundations and progress indicators. Provide instructions in Civics Education based on citizenship exam requirements. Comply with safety, fire, and smoking regulations, and complete mandatory compliance and safety training. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Elementary Education or English. Minimum of 3 years teaching Adult Basic Skills or post-secondary education. Minimum of 3 years experience teaching older youth and adults. Minimum of 3 years experience teaching in an urban setting. Demonstrated ability to provide instruction for English as a Second Language students. Bilingual skills strongly recommended, with Spanish speaking preferred.
