Role Description

Form Energy is hiring a Staff Mechanical Engineer for our Test Infrastructure team in Berkeley, CA. As part of our Product Engineering organization, this team is instrumental in providing battery testing platforms and services across all of Form's facilities and is invaluable in delivering and scaling our technology. In this role, you will report to the Senior Manager of Test Infrastructure and lead a small team developing complex test equipment in support of our battery systems. You will mentor others in the design of fluid handling systems, such as for our aqueous electrolyte or air management, while collaborating with the electrical subteam to produce high‑quality test equipment. You will interface with partner teams across the organization to tackle complex problems with robust solutions, advancing our understanding of the Iron‑Air product.

What you’ll do:

Own the design, build, and deployment of lab equipment for testing large numbers of battery cells and modules

Design, draft, and manufacture mechanical components and assemblies for our test stands, including pumps, fans, and piping

Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineers to take proofs of concept and refine them for scale‑up

Partner with other engineers to develop scalable documentation and change management systems

Provide leadership and management to a small team of mechanical engineers

Act as a primary resource for internal customer teams to help define requirements for critical new lab functionality

Train technicians and other users on new lab equipment and processes

Be a champion for safety in the development of new equipment and processes

What you’ll bring:

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field, with 8+ years of industry experience in mechanical and/or fluid systems

Key involvement in pioneering hands‑on technical projects as both an individual contributor and a project lead

Experience standardizing and maintaining fleets of electromechanical systems

Experience building effective, scalable, and empowering processes for activities such as system design, design documentation, manufacturing documentation, operations documentation, design reviews, engineering change management, safety review

Leadership and mentoring skills with well‑developed communication, collaboration, and engagement skills working with a variety of cross‑functional teams and stakeholders

A willingness to learn and help others, a natural curiosity, and a desire to make an impact

Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, startup environment
