This is a Department Promotional Examination and is open only to current eligible employees of the Kern County Airports Department who have successfully completed their initial probationary period and received an overall rating of standard or better on the last employee performance report. EXAMNINATION SCHEDULE:

Written Exam: Qualified candidates will be notified of the written examination 5 days prior to the examination date.

Examinations: Written Exam (Weight 100%): Will be conducted to assess the applicant’s knowledge of general and governmental accounting standards, financial reporting and analysis; budgeting and fiscal management practices; internal controls and auditing procedures. The Human Resources Division may solely conduct an appraisal of application materials should there be an insufficient number of candidates to warrant a written exam. Applicants must attain at least 70% score on each phase of the examination process. Examination components for promotional testing will be administered during the scheduled date/time/location without exception.

Minimum Qualifications / Employment Standards Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field. If the major has been in a field other than accounting, at least 15 semester or 25 quarter units of college level accounting courses must have been completed.

OR Evidence of having passed all four parts of the Uniform Certified Public Accountant examination

OR Possession of a Certified Public Accountant certificate will satisfy this requirement.

OR Status as a senior accounting student at an accredited college or university will admit applicants to the examination; however, a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting must be conferred prior to being considered eligible for appointment. Official notification verifying admission and senior accounting student status in the college or university must be submitted at time of application.

Depending upon assignment, incumbents may be required to possess and maintain a valid Class C California driver’s license.

Additional Information Admittance to the examination will require a valid government issued photograph identification. Applicants who are unable to present proper identification must make arrangements with the Human Resources Division prior to the test date. A background check may be conducted for this classification. Following an offer of employment, you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense. This examination will establish an eligible list from which an immediate appointment will be made at the Kern County Airports Department. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission. Kern County Employees’ Retirement Association (KCERA). This Section 401 (a) defined benefit retirement plan requires employer and employee contribution and pays retired employees a pension based on salary, years of service, and age upon retirement.

This section 457 plan allows employees to contribute on a pre-tax basis to a supplemental retirement account which is then paid out to them when they retire.
