Project Engineer — Fenton, MI • $35-$41/hour
Highlights
Expected workload: 50–55 hours per week.
Assignment duration: approximately 1 – 1.5 years.
NX experience preferred; SolidWorks experience acceptable (training in NX provided).
Must be willing to work in Fenton, MI, with travel to Livonia, MI, to support automation build activities.
About the Job The Project Engineer is responsible for reviewing sketches and designs, overseeing system processes for assigned projects, and ensuring systems are both effective and cost-efficient. This role requires understanding customer design and build specifications and assisting the Project Manager in organizing, supervising, and monitoring all engineering activities.
Key Responsibilities
Schedule and facilitate detailed equipment concept and proposal review meetings with team members from Advanced Processing, Mechanical, and Controls Engineering.
Create, review, and track process deliverables.
Schedule and facilitate internal and customer review meetings.
Review layouts and designs with design vendors and the engineering department.
Coordinate meetings with design groups and other departments as needed.
Schedule and facilitate formal design review meetings between customer representatives and the project team.
Support the manufacturing kickoff meeting and advise Manufacturing of customer considerations, requests, and specifications.
Monitor the release of all drawings through the business system.
Field telephone calls from build suppliers and shop personnel regarding engineering and associated issues.
Ensure all “As Built” and non-conformance updates are reflected on drawings as supplied by Build and Site Supervisors.
File and maintain all component information and drawings for assigned projects.
Schedule and review FMEA/ERGO documentation at rough sketch and 40% design completion phases when required.
Ensure designs are cost-effective and meet quality expectations.
Monitor and report all engineering progress to the Project Manager.
Review Controls Line-ups for accuracy and completeness.
Collect and analyze information generated by Engineering Changes to determine project impact and support cost negotiations as required.
Follow all safety and environmental regulations and identify potential safety or environmental concerns.
Adhere to the Quality System and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
Experience and Physical Requirements
The role requires frequent standing, sitting, using hands to handle materials, and communicating effectively.
Occasional walking and lifting or moving objects up to 25 pounds may be required.
Must have close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Education and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university and/or 3–5 years of related experience in a specific business segment (BIW, Chassis/Glass, Special Welding, etc.), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Competence in controls engineering and mechanical design, including:
Force analysis
Standardization
Processing
CAD
Cause and effect analysis
Reliability and maintainability (R&M)
Statistical process control (SPC)
Failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA)
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Ability to review CAD models using the required software.
Skills and Abilities
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and customer presentations.
Proficiency in applying mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, geometry, and trigonometry.
Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret and execute written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions.
