Administrative Judicial Legal Assistant

– Senior Legal Typist (SLT) Position, Division of Workers' Compensation (DWC)

Job Description and Duties This is a repost. If you previously applied, there is no need to re-apply as your application is on file and will be considered. When you enjoy taking part in legal administrative and clerical support under unique and complex circumstances and can type at a speed of 45 words per minute, the Senior Legal Typist (SLT) position may be for you. Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) monitors the administration of workers' compensation claims and provides services to assist in resolving disputes with claims for workers' compensation benefits. DWC is looking for an efficient individual with the ability to independently prepare legal correspondence. The SLT will review and process legal documents such as case openings, pleadings, and other correspondence. The SLT will also assist parties and litigants with inquiries and updates in person, by telephone, or email. Additionally, the SLT will transcribe dictation from a dictating machine for reports, decisions, or orders. This position has flexibility to telework and is expected to report to the office at least 3 days a week. This posting may be used to fill future vacancies in accordance with 2 CCR / 249.3.

Working Conditions Location: 455 Golden Gate Avenue, 2nd Floor San Francisco, CA 94102-7014 Our offices and court are conveniently located in a modern high‑rise building containing a cafeteria and non‑subsidized childcare, close to BART and MUNI, within walking distance of Union Square and Hayes Valley shops and restaurants as well as the Twitter Building, which contains several healthy take‑out restaurant choices. Telework available two (2) days per week. The SLT works in a smoke‑free DWC Office under LED lighting, controlled temperature, quiet to moderate noise levels; equipped with cubicles, computer, and other office equipment.

Special Requirements Proficient with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Typing Certificate of 45 words per minute, ability to read and write English at a level required for successful job performance, establish and maintain effective working relationships, communicate effectively, follow directions, analyze situations and take effective action using good judgment in decision making, manage time and resources effectively and be responsive to management needs.
