ATTENTION ALASKA RESIDENTS ONLY! The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Division of Facilities Services, is looking for an Engineering Assistant 1/2/3. Position overview Engineering Assistant 1/2/3 performs routine architectural/engineering assignments or assists higher‑level architects/engineers with a wide variety of activities. Work involves well‑defined assignments or fragments of more complex projects and is reviewed on a regular basis and upon completion. The position serves as part of a management team that oversees statewide Public Facilities improvement projects through planning/scoping, design, and construction phases. It functions as the Project Engineer overseeing construction projects of varying size and complexity under the supervision of a Project Manager. Responsibilities include monitoring construction activities; coordinating with contractors and design professionals; scheduling and budgeting; preparing project documentation and reports; and oversight of work performed by contractors. Location and travel Project location may vary; temporary relocation to remote communities for the duration of a construction project is highly likely. Travel in light aircraft to remote locations may also be required. Travel by vehicle is required and a valid driver’s license is necessary. Location options Possible locations include Anchorage, Fairbanks, or Juneau. Responsibilities

Provide ongoing oversight of construction activities on Statewide Public Facilities projects. Coordinate with contractors and design professionals; support planning, design, and construction phases. Assist with scheduling, budgeting, and the preparation of project documentation and reports. Ensure work performed by contractors aligns with project requirements and timelines. Qualifications by position level

Engineering Assistant 1 Bachelor’s degree with a major in engineering, architecture, or land surveying from ABET‑accredited institution, OR a degree from a non‑ABET institution with appropriate certification, plus an Engineer‑In‑Training (EIT) or Land Surveyor‑In‑Training (LSIT) certificate or verification of passing FE/FS examinations. Special note: an applicant who will obtain within nine months a qualifying ABET degree may be offered conditional employment pending degree verification. One year of entry‑level engineering/architectural/land surveying experience as an Engineering Assistant 1 or equivalent, or substitutions per substitutions clause. The department will identify Engineering‑In‑Training positions. Engineering Assistant 2 Bachelor’s degree (ABET‑accredited) with a major in engineering, architecture, or land surveying, OR equivalent; and One year of entry level engineering/architectural/land surveying experience as an Engineering Assistant 1 with the State of Alaska or equivalent, OR substitutions per the section for non‑ABET degrees; and An EIT/LSIT certificate or FE/FS verification; and Substitutions: four years of related education/experience may substitute for the degree; graduate study may substitute for experience. Engineering Assistant 3 Bachelor’s degree with major in engineering, architecture, or land surveying from ABET‑accredited institution, OR equivalent; and Two years of engineering/architectural/land surveying experience, of which one year was at the Engineering Assistant 2 level or equivalent; or Non‑ABET degree with EE/FE verification and two years of qualifying experience; and Substitutions: four years of related education/experience may substitute for the degree; graduate study may substitute for some experience. The department may request documentation to verify education and experience, and some pathways allow conditional offers pending documentation. Flexibly staffed This position may be filled at Engineering Assistant 1, 2, or 3 level. Salary is the full range listed above; starting salary will be determined by the level hired.
