The Division of Administration/Office of Technology Services has a vacancy located in the Data Center Operations Section (Req. 213716).

This position will be responsible for day-to-day administration and maintenance of the virtual server infrastructure for the Office of Technology Services. The role includes performing and coordinating the installation, maintenance, and modification of vendor-supplied software for virtual server infrastructure and related products, critical to business functions. After-hours scheduling and maintenance may be required due to extensive availability requirements. The position requires technical troubleshooting, problem resolution, root‑cause analysis reports, and corrective action plans. The role also works with other OTS technical staff to troubleshoot and resolve associated problems.

Giving agencies guidance in the state purchasing and contracting process as they seek goods and services

Administering a program that provides federal funds to help Louisiana residents recover from a series of devastating hurricanes

Qualifications

Two years of experience in information technology; OR

Six years of full‑time work experience in any field; OR

An associate’s degree in information technology; OR

A bachelor’s degree.

Experience Substitution:

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full‑time work experience in any area. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours, which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any area.

NOTE:

A certification in an approved area may be substituted for the education and/or experience requirements at the time of hire or promotion, provided the appointment is made from a Certificate of Eligibles. Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

Job Duties Assumes lead responsibility for the day‑to‑day administration and maintenance of virtual server infrastructure for the Office of Technology Services. Coordinates the installation, maintenance, and modification of vendor‑supplied software for the virtual environment, which is critical to business functions and may require after‑hours scheduling due to extensive availability requirements.

Recommends and implements standards, policies, and procedures related to servers for the OTS virtual environment. Consults regularly with vendors concerning software and/or hardware problems, resolutions, and system performance. Advises and consults with end‑users, administrators, technical support personnel, and consultants, designing and providing documentation, instruction, problem analysis, and education pertaining to specific and highly complex areas of software performance.

Assists in the migration and provisioning of all virtual server environments. Provides problem analysis and specialized technical expertise to end‑users, administrators, technical support personnel, and management consultants. Provides root‑cause analysis and corrective action plans for incident reports by the user community for the various departments pertaining to virtual servers.

Identifies and analyzes current and future needs and requirements for virtual servers supported by OTS Virtual Server staff. Reviews software products and interfaces with vendors as needed. Monitors and updates procedures, documentation, and change‑management logs in accordance with OTS policies. Mentors lower‑level team members. Facilitates knowledge transfer and training. Performs all other tasks as directed.

This vacancy will be filled by a new hire or by promotion of a current permanent status classified employee.

This vacancy participates in a career progression group and may be filled from this recruitment as an IT Statewide Associate Engineer 1, 2, 3, or 4 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant.
