On-Call Direct Care Staff role at YMCA of Greater Seattle (on-site at Northgate housing location). Job Summary
The On-Call Direct Care Staff position provides 24-hour shift supervision for youth and young adults, ages 16–18, in an Adolescent Transitional Living Program. In partnership with DCYF, this program serves up to 5 young people at a time and focuses on daily supervision, individualized support, age-appropriate interventions, developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive independent living skills activities, and preparation for independent housing with a trauma-informed and empowering approach. This position is on-site at the Northgate housing location and is part of the Social Impact Center Y, the social services branch of YMCA of Greater Seattle (YGS). Responsibilities
Provide trauma-informed, relationship-based supervision for residents; conduct safety checks at regular intervals during shifts. Coordinate with the director and case managers to support individualized, strengths-based service plans. Complete critical organizational and administrative program tasks. Participate in supervision sessions; engage in teamwork to ensure quality care of residents. Maintain a safe, respectful living environment; de-escalate using preventative behavior management skills when possible. Build therapeutic relationships with residents and support group dynamics. Promote engagement across residents’ lives (child welfare, medical/mental health, education, culture, recreation, life skills, family time). Support daily routines, meal preparation, chores, activities of daily living, laundry, medication management, and group activities. Oversee safety and cleanliness; perform cleaning tasks and submit maintenance requests as needed. Accompany residents to individual appointments and group community outings. Collaborate with staff and community partners to plan and facilitate activities. Maintain clear, professional shift logs, participant notes, incident reports, and other documentation in designated databases. Other duties as assigned; reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Qualifications
Must have high school diploma/GED/HSEC. Minimum one year of experience working with teens or young adults in foster care, group care, housing, education, juvenile justice, anti-poverty, vocational support, mental health, chemical dependency, or homelessness fields. Must be 21 years of age (unless 18–21 and enrolled in an internship with supervision by a staff member 21+). Ability to teach independent living skills for diverse learning styles and plan supportive activities. Strong youth engagement and relationship-building skills; strong verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Ability to transport self and clients safely; proof of adequate vehicle insurance or ability to travel to areas without public transportation. Current state-approved First Aid and CPR certification; current HIV blood-borne pathogens training (or complete within 30 days of hire). Preferred Qualifications
Associates or Bachelor’s degree. Experience with diverse populations (language, culture, race, ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak additional languages may be helpful. Authorized Driver Requirement
This role may require transporting clients as an authorized driver using an employer-provided vehicle. Driving duties are safety-sensitive. To become an authorized driver you must be 21+, have held a driver’s license for at least 3 years, and pass a drug screen in addition to meeting driving record standards. Driving Record Standards
Within 3 years: no more than two vehicle-related suspensions/reinstatements and no more than two moving violations/accidents. Within 5 years: no major violations (DUI/DWI/OUI/etc., reckless driving, hit-and-run with injury, etc.). Permanent disqualification examples include multiple DUIs, hit-and-run with injury, manslaughter/felony death by motor vehicle, or certain state restrictions (e.g., California driver’s license restrictions).
