Senior Equipment Operator - District Five / DeLand Maintenance This position will operate vehicles requiring a CDL instructional permit or license as well as a variety of other large equipment including but not limited to road graders, sewer cleaners and hydraulic excavators in bridge and roadway maintenance. Coordinates, participates, and directs the maintenance activity of the assigned crew. Performs independent manual labor, Temporary Traffic Control and rough carpentry, masonry, painting, and assists in the assembly and erection of highway signs. The Difference You Will Make

$44,301.81 - $57,331.75 Your Specific Responsibilities
Upon receipt of the required CDL Instructional permit or license, operate vehicles and a variety of large equipment including, but not limited to, road graders, sewer cleaners and hydraulic excavators in bridge and roadway maintenance. Perform minor maintenance and servicing work in connection with any type of equipment operated, including but not limited to: check and add fluids, check/adjust brakes, maintain proper air pressure in all tires, etc. Assist in the repair of operated equipment. Clean and wash equipment. Coordinate, participate, and direct the maintenance activity of the assigned crew. Assist in selecting materials, supplies, equipment, inspecting, planning workloads, workflows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with employees. Maintain records of operation. Prepare and maintain daily paperwork such as crew activity reports and daily vehicle check lists. Perform independent manual labor incidental to job assignments. Perform Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic). Perform rough carpentry, masonry, painting and/or assist in the assembly and erection of highway signs. Train crew members in the operation of heavy equipment and of basic Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic). Assist with crew activity reports as needed. The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of: Knowledge of mathematical calculations. Standard safety rules and procedures. The procedures, techniques, and use of equipment in the maintenance and repair of highways, bridges and/or other highway structures. Skills in: Skilled in operating a variety of hand and power tools. Operating and performing minor maintenance on large equipment and vehicles. Completing job related reports and forms. Communicating both verbally and in writing, including following oral/written instructions. Ability to: Ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment, train others. Readiness and ability to understand job related materials. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with others. Lift, carry, and handle up to 50 pounds. Stoop, climb, squat, push, pull, crawl or bend on a frequent basis. Work outdoors in various weather conditions, on various terrains and at various heights or in high volume traffic. Stand for an extended period of time. Other Job-Related Requirements
Due to the nature of this position, the incumbent must respond to emergencies and be on-call (24-hour duty) when necessary. While on-duty status, the position’s incumbent must be readily available to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV), consistent with the type of commercial driver’s license (CDL). The incumbent is required to possess, or on a routine basis performs other CMV safety-sensitive functions. A valid Class A CDL is required. The incumbent of this position is required to work with or around Department of Corrections inmates. Must obtain certification in Maintenance of Traffic - Intermediate Level within one year and maintain it. Minimum Qualifications
Requires two years of experience in operating small/medium equipment and vehicles. A valid Class A CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) with air brakes is required at time of hire. This position requires a valid Class A driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following: three (3) or more moving violations in the past three (3) years that accumulate three (3) or more points per violation; any two (2) convictions of reckless driving in the past three (3) years; a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past three (3) years; and a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction, in the past four (4) years. Your driving record will be reviewed and the status of your driver license confirmed. In order to be eligible for hire into a position requiring a Commercial Driver License (CDL), applicants must register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse, as required, for the Department to conduct a pre-employment query.
