GD Resources LLC is seeking a qualified
Sign Language Interpreter
to provide
on-site and emergency interpretation services
at the
Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center . The interpreter will support Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing employees and patients within a clinical setting, facilitating clear communication during patient encounters, team meetings, and training sessions.
This position requires professional fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong familiarity with medical terminology and the healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities Primary Duties (Scheduled On-site Services):
Provide
ASL interpretation
for clinical encounters, team meetings, and related training within a healthcare environment.
Interpret spoken English into sign language and vice versa, ensuring accurate and culturally appropriate communication.
Maintain confidentiality of patient and staff information in accordance with HIPAA and VA policies.
Provide interpretation for approximately
30 hours per week , typically:
Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. (projected schedule beginning December 2025)
Adjust schedule as needed based on clinic demand (may vary quarterly).
Support staff and patients during breaks between appointments; interpretation is not continuous.
Emergency / Unscheduled Services:
Be available to respond to
unscheduled or emergency interpretation needs within two (2) hours
during normal business hours.
Provide additional on-site interpreting as requested and paid hourly for actual time worked.
Qualifications Required:
Associate degree or certificate in
Sign Language Interpretation
or related field.
Demonstrated proficiency in
American Sign Language (ASL)
and English.
Strong knowledge of
medical vocabulary , grammar, and syntax related to healthcare communication.
Ability to interpret complex conversations accurately and maintain message cohesion and tone.
Must pass VA background and security clearance prior to start.
Must be punctual, professional, and present a neat appearance consistent with government workplace standards.
Preferred:
RID/NAD Certification (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf or National Association of the Deaf).
Prior experience interpreting in
clinical or hospital settings .
Familiarity with
spinal cord injury terminology
or VA healthcare operations.
Work Conditions & Expectations
Work Environment:
Outpatient clinic and office settings within the VA Medical Center.
Conduct:
Maintain professional behavior and confidentiality at all times.
Appearance:
Business-casual attire; clean, neat, and professional presentation required.
Reporting:
Check in and out with the company supervisor daily; notify VA point of contact of any delays or schedule changes.
Security:
Must adhere to VA information security and device scan policies.
Schedule & Compensation
Approximately
30 hours per week
(non-continuous interpreting).
Hours:
Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. (subject to change per VA needs).
