This position is a full‑time staff role within UMES Public Safety, responsible for supervising a shift and performing duties of a University Police Officer II and III.

Pay Base pay: $85,952.00 per year. Additional compensation may include overtime, shift differential and on‑call pay (non‑exempt positions only).

Responsibilities

Supervise routine operations and staff of a shift; set work priorities and evaluate staff, or function as a senior specialist coordinating activities of a complex specialized unit.

Monitor operations and performance to ensure adherence to departmental standards, taking corrective action as appropriate.

Prepare reports and recommend improvements to operations.

Investigate citizen complaints regarding police performance.

Assume command at serious accidents or incidents.

Inspect law enforcement personnel under supervision.

Review and edit reports from assigned staff.

Perform all duties of a University Police Officer II and III.

Physical Demands

May be required to perform physical work requiring bending, stooping, reaching, carrying, and frequent heavy lifting.

May require work in adverse weather conditions.

May require wearing personal protective equipment.

May require operating a variety of equipment.

Licenses / Certifications

Certification as a sworn Police Officer recognized by the Maryland Police Training Commission.

Valid Maryland non‑commercial Class C or equivalent driver's license.

Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED and two years as a sworn police officer.
