CO-CURRICULAR JOB DESCRIPTION BARRINGTON COMMUNITY UNIT SCHOOL DISTRICT 220 Position Title Head Coach
Reports To Middle School Assistant Principal/Athletic Director
Supervises N/A
Season Winter/Spring
Position Summary The coach is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the athletic team, including developing practice plans, strategizing for games, mentoring student-athletes, and promoting a positive team culture. The coach ensures that the program aligns with the school’s values and goals, fostering both athletic excellence and personal growth among student-athletes.
Qualifications
Licensed as a certified teacher or certified through an IESA-approved coaches education program
Completed mandated concussion training
Previous experience preferred, but not required
Effective communication and problem-solving skills
Strong work ethic and organizational skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to work positively and productively with adults and student participants
Expected Student Contact Beyond Teaching Contract
5 days of student contact is expected whether it is through practices or games
When competitions start, expect 2-3 matches per week
There is a conference tournament at the end of the season that the team will participate in
Expected Weekend and Holiday Competitions/Performances/Events/Travel
Generally there are no weekend/holiday competitions unless an event needs to be rescheduled. This will be communicated in advance as much as possible.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, talk, demonstrate, and listen.
The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, such as athletic equipment.
