The Campus at Lookout Mountain comprises three youth services centers: Aspire Youth Services Center (APYSC), Golden Peak Youth Services Center (GPYSC), and Summit Youth Services Center (SYSC). About the Division
The Division of Youth Services (DYS) provides a continuum of residential and non-residential services, including juvenile detention, commitment, and parole. DYS operates fifteen secure facilities serving youth ages 10 to 21 and contracts with various providers. DYS is the agency mandated to care for youth committed by the District Court to the Colorado Department of Human Services. This position provides 24-hour/7 days per week supervision of youth in DYS State Operated Secure Facilities. It is a direct-care, essential role focused on safety and security, organizing daily living and leisure activities, and delivering corrective cognitive, emotional, or behavioral experiences using a trauma-responsive approach. The role requires adherence to applicable laws, CDHS policy, DYS policy, audit standards, and facility procedures. The position serves a complex adolescent population with various behavioral health disorders, trauma, and criminal behaviors. The incumbent functions as a Lead Worker and is partially accountable for the work product of CYSOIs. Professional boundaries must be maintained according to Policy S-3-30 and Policy S-3-20. Safety/Security
Provide direct care, safety, security and supervision of adjudicated and/or pre-adjudicated youth in a locked setting. Enforce security rules, supervise daily activities, orient youth to the unit, and intervene in volatile situations. Provide immediate crisis intervention and de-escalation as needed. Monitor youth movement, conduct searches per schedule, and ensure searches are conducted by same-sex staff unless otherwise requested by transgender/intersex youth in accordance with policy. Identify, document, and seize contraband; perform safety checks; monitor Suicide Precaution Monitoring (SPM) statuses; respond to incidents; and enforce behavioral management plans. Support PREA compliance and safety planning; supervise medical watches as required; coordinate transports; ensure meals are offered; and maintain least-restrictive interventions. Lead Worker Duties (as assigned)
Coaches, teaches, and mentors staff; conducts shift briefings; oversees SPM, SMP, Seclusion, and safety plans; reviews disciplinary processes; conducts incident analyses; supports fire, safety, and sanitation standards; administers medications per QMAP standards; coordinates post-incident processes; and oversees transportation and meals. Assigns post staffing and documents youth movement, needs, crisis interventions, and status as required by policy. Facilitates and/or co-facilitates team meetings and ensures adherence to policy and procedure. Programming
Implements and follows the facility behavioral management program; conducts psycho-educational groups; observes and reports problem behaviors; role-models pro-social behavior; supports restorative justice; ensures youth access to grievances, medical and mental health services; maintains daily program schedules; supports educational programming; and orients new admissions within 24 hours. Documentation/Recording and Reporting
Document observations, searches, and daily activities; maintain logs; record SPM/SMP statuses and medical watches; complete risk assessments; use TRAILS database for incidents and youth activities; generate incident reports and notify relevant parties; document room classification, MAYSI-2/SIRS-R results, and other required information; ensure compliance with reporting requirements and confidentiality; manage inventory and property records; ensure VINE data is entered; coordinate mandatory documentation for high-profile admissions and other events. Review documentation to ensure adherence to policy and standards; track youth movement and needs; review room classifications and MAYSI-2/SIRS-R results; ensure proper meal tracking; monitor NDR status. Organizational Accountability
Demonstrate a healthy, positive, and respectful climate facility-wide; communicate professionally with outside agencies and staff; adhere to CDHS Code of Conduct, DYS Core Values, and strategic priorities; follow work schedules, timekeeping, and leave practices; serve as a role model for staff. Attend required training, maintain certifications, and complete pre-service and ongoing training; support behavior management strategies; lead or co-facilitate team meetings as needed. Other Duties
Other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Requirements Educational Requirements: High school diploma or GED. Work Experience: One year of professional experience in an occupation related to the work; corrections-related experience includes custody and control or POST/Military/LE background. Additional education can substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis. College coursework in relevant fields can substitute for experience. Preferred Qualifications include experience with adjudicated/detained youth, program development, trainer certification, supervisory experience, critical thinking, Google Suite proficiency, and a degree in a related field. Conditions of Employment: Comprehensive background checks, valid driver’s license, minimum 21 years of age with no felony or DV history, 24/7 shifts, travel requirements, completion of pre-service and ongoing training, and disclosure of prior state terminations if applicable.
