$902 per month
9-month term between (September–June)

Thank you for considering a roster position with the City of Greensboro! These positions are an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience and contribute to our community. Please review the details below to ensure you understand the nature of roster employment:
Hourly Employment : Roster positions are paid hourly and do not include benefits such as medical, dental, or vision insurance, life insurance, paid leave, or paid holidays.
Limited Hours : Roster employees may work up to, but no more than, 1,000 hours in a 12 month period.
Pension System : Roster positions are not eligible for membership in the city’s pension system.
While roster positions do not include benefits, they are often a pathway to full-time, benefited employment with the City. Many of our current full-time employees started in roster positions, and we encourage you to explore this opportunity as a potential first step in your career with us.

Work Schedule
Leading Weekly rehearsals on
Wednesdays, 7:00–9:00 PM
Participating in Monthly advisory board meetings on
Wednesdays, 6:00–7:00 PM
Directing the Orchestra at least 3 concerts
(plus dress rehearsals) per season
Rehearsal and concert preparation as needed
Public appearances and community outreach as needed

About the Role The
Conductor
is responsible for the artistic leadership and performance excellence of the
Philharmonia of Greensboro . This includes:
Leading and directing weekly rehearsals and live performances.
Selecting and interpreting repertoire in collaboration with Creative Greensboro staff and the Philharmonia advisory board.
Inspiring musicians of all levels and ensuring artistic growth across the ensemble.
Participating in community outreach, media appearances, and promotional events.
Supporting musician recruitment, community partnerships, and audience engagement.
What You Bring Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in music or a related field.
Strong orchestral knowledge, including repertoire, music theory, and score reading
At least 5 years
of experience conducting community, amateur, or semi-professional orchestras.
Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to inspire musicians of varied experience levels and connect with audiences.
Familiarity with current trends in orchestral programming.
A genuine passion for music — and a sense of humor!
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in conducting.
Multilingual ability.
Experience with contemporary or diverse musical genres.
Comfort with public speaking and media appearances.
Proficiency on an orchestral instrument.
Knowledge of local music partners/resources to assist with recruitment and fundraising.
