In the role of

Research Scientist I , you will supervise and independently perform studies to advance the principal investigator’s research projects. You will develop, plan, and implement experiments, analyze data, monitor quality control processes to ensure research integrity, and prepare manuscripts and grant applications.

The position will be in the laboratory of Dr. William Drobyski in the Departments of Medicine and Microbiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. The focus is transplantation immunology with a specific emphasis on the immunobiology of allogeneic bone marrow transplantation and the pathophysiology of acute and chronic GVHD. Areas of interest include T cell and regulatory T cell biology, innate immune cell–induced inflammation, and inflammatory cytokine networks that contribute to GVHD. You will work with genetically modified mouse models, flow cytometry, q‑PCR, RNA‑seq, western blot, single‑cell RNA‑seq, bioinformatics, and other immunological techniques.

Primary Functions

Perform immunology experiments from design conception to data analysis and presentation.

Collect, analyze, and summarize experimental data, performing calculations and reducing data errors for interpretation.

Prepare scientific papers, present findings at local and national meetings, and assist the Principal Investigator in grant preparation.

Perform molecular biology assays (RT‑PCR, real‑time PCR, Western blot, molecular cloning). Adopt new techniques in the laboratory.

Coordinate research activities; lead and manage projects; develop and monitor quality activities.

Participate in meetings with the Principal Investigator and research staff; evaluate and interpret data; develop methodologies and evaluate lab procedures.

Develop routine and complex computational and database methods; may serve as primary statistician for the area.

Oversee laboratory personnel, including training, daily work direction, and delegation; teach lab staff to achieve experimental and educational goals.

Maintain supplies, negotiate with vendors, and track purchase orders.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Advanced laboratory techniques and expert planning and implementation of research protocols.

Proficiency with flow cytometry, ELISA, western blotting, molecular cloning, and immunohistochemistry.

Experience with the handling of laboratory animals.

Solid knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management.

Strong data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.

Preferred Schedule Full‑time role with coverage during core business hours and flexibility as needed to accommodate business needs.

Position Requirements Minimum Required Education:

PhD in a scientific field.

Minimum Required Experience:

No prior experience required.

Preferred Experience:

Immunology, including mouse models, flow cytometry, and/or molecular biology; research skills in immunology and cellular/molecular biology techniques.
