Position Summary The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager serves as the on‑site leader responsible for ensuring all Salute and client environmental, health, and safety programs are effectively implemented, monitored, and continuously improved across the data center. Reporting to the Data Center Manager, this role drives compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations while promoting a culture of proactive risk management and safe work practices. The EHS Manager partners closely with both the client and their tenants to ensure seamless integration of all EHS protocols and to prevent operational conflicts between overlapping safety programs or site policies.
Responsibilities Program Leadership, Compliance, & Environmental Oversight
Develop, implement and update site specific Safety Plans
Develop, implement and update site specific Emergency Action Plans
Support EHS submissions for customer SOQs and RFQs
Review General Contractor Project‑Specific Safety Plans for compliance with customer requirements, OSHA, NFPA and EPA standards
Maintain environmental permits/programs to ensure compliance with all applicable agencies
Track universal waste recycling
Provide monthly, quarterly, and annual sustainability reporting to the site manager and customer as required
Maintain frequent interaction with VP of Global EHS, Data Center management, representatives of federal and state agencies and other safety professionals
Collaborate with the client’s EHS leadership and tenant operations teams to ensure alignment of safety programs, protocols, and communication to prevent conflicting procedures
All other EHS duties and initiatives as assigned
Training, Culture & Workforce Engagement
Develop and implement site safety training plans and provide training to all data center staff with continual assessment of training effectiveness
Develop site specific safety orientation for all contractors and visitors to the data center
Establish and lead the site Safety Committee
Establish the site Safety Champions program
Establish the site First Responder team and training requirements for the team
Schedule and conduct Emergency Action Plan Drills to ensure preparedness and compliance
Track training compliance for Data Center staff completion of 100% for required safety training, 3rd party safety instruction and manage database of all required safety certifications
Maintain 100% adherence to Salute safety culture and best safety practices
Adhere to Behavioral Based Safety practices
Auditing, Inspection, and Incident Management
Schedule and conduct site safety audits and inspections to identify hazards in the workplace
Complete comprehensive reports of audit and inspection, including corrective action plans to ensure compliance and mitigate risks
Investigate and analyze work‑related incidents, accidents, injuries, illnesses, near misses and implement measures to prevent recurrence
First point of contact for incident escalation in the event of a safety incident in the Data Center; supports and advises data center leadership, client and Salute VO of Global EHS during incident investigations and root cause analyses
Ensure adherence to all safety policies and procedures and required standards
Risk Assessment, Job Hazard Analysis, & Continuous Improvement
Analyze job and activity EHS risk scenarios to determine their potential impact
Ensure that all Job and Task Hazard Analysis (JHAs) are completed prior to the start of work assignments to mitigate hazards
Support cross‑functional alignment of environmental, health, and safety practices across all Salute and client initiatives
Qualifications
Associate’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health required; a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field preferred.
3–5 years of experience in safety management, ideally within data centers, industrial, or mission‑critical environments.
Proven ability to develop and execute comprehensive site‑specific safety plans aligned with OSHA and NFPA requirements.
Demonstrated expertise in creating Emergency Action Plans compliant with NFPA 1600 standards.
Experience using Safety Management Systems for incident tracking, performance metrics, and regulatory compliance.
Skilled in compiling, analyzing, and presenting EHS performance indicators to management and clients.
Strong working knowledge of NFPA 70E, LOTO requirements, and behavior‑based safety practices.
Thorough understanding of OSHA, EPA, and NFPA regulations and their application in operational environments.
Experience managing Workers’ Compensation claims, universal waste programs, and contractor safety.
Knowledge of change management principles and cultural transformation to drive organizational safety maturity.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and engage at all levels.
Demonstrated ability to work independently while thriving in a team‑based environment.
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and EHS management software.
Proof of Safety Certification (BCSP, NASP, or affiliated college certification program).
Proof of OSHA 30‑Hour General or Construction Industry Training.
Military veteran or retiree background a plus.
Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, navigate multi‑story facilities, and respond quickly to emergency situations while following all safety standards and wearing required protective equipment.
