Overview The City of Waco seeks a skilled and dedicated Senior Heavy Equipment Operator - CDL. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience operating various heavy machinery with a strong focus on leadership, safety, precision, and reliability to ensure smooth operations.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

HS Diploma or GED equivalent

Two years experience in heavy equipment operations in all types of road maintenance

Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License is required at the time of interview. Tanker endorsement will be required within 180 days of employment

Specialized training and licensing upon hire required

Position Description Under general supervision, leads a field crew operating specialized trucks and heavy motorized equipment in support of street, roadway, and infrastructure maintenance within the Streets Division of the Public Works Department.

Essential Functions

Coordinates the activities of a work crew repairing and maintaining streets, roadways, and infrastructure; estimates materials required for assignments, stages, materials and equipment, assigns work and operates specialized trucks and heavy motorized equipment; duties may vary according to job assignment.

Inspects vehicles, equipment and tools; repairs, maintains and adjusts equipment; maintains daily work logs; trains work crew and controls work projects to assure that safety rules and regulations are followed; established the work zone and enforces compliance with all safety regulations and PWD procedures; recognizes, avoids and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.

Supports the relationship between the City of Waco and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with residents, visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work related issues and City information.

May be required to respond afterhours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City wide emergency.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
