The Department of Orthopaedics and Therapy Services at Penn State Health is seeking a full-time BE/BC fellowship-trained Primary Care Sports Medicine physician. This position will be located in State College, PA. This position will serve as the Primary Care Sports Medicine Director for Pennsylvania State University’s main campus Division 1 Intercollegiate Athletic (ICA) program. The individual in this position will be responsible for the coordination of all sports medicine care, in collaboration with the Surgical Medical Director. The Sports Medicine Director will assist the ICA administration and Penn State Health leadership in the management of a multi-disciplinary team of ICA employed subject matter experts. The Primary Care Sports Medicine Director will be responsible for developing the appropriate work and coverage schedules; and will ensure that there is dedicated coverage for any athletic practices, home games, away games, and other events as deemed necessary by the ICA and the healthcare organization and in compliance with Big 10 and NCAA standards.

We are looking for a motivated team player to join a team that consists of four orthopaedic surgeons, four primary care sports medicine physicians, two physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians, one surgical podiatrist, and five advanced practice providers. The qualified candidate will be a full-time faculty member of the Penn State Health Department of Orthopaedics and Therapy Services, and hold an academic rank within the Penn State College of Medicine.
What we’re seeking
Medical degree – MD, DO, or foreign equivalent.
Board Certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Fellowship training in Sports Medicine.
A minimum of 5 years relevant experience.
Direct experience leading a multi-disciplinary team of subject matter experts, including: Certified athletic trainers, psychologists, registered dietitians, orthopedic surgeons, certified strength & conditioning specialists, and physical therapists.
This position will have dual reporting roles to both Penn State Health and Penn State University’s Athletic Department.
No clinical duties outside of Penn State Athletics coverage and oversight.
Excellent patient care abilities and an interest in teaching and clinical research.
