Job Summary
A Sr Systems Engineer is a technical professional who specializes in skills related to windows infrastructure, particularly windows server, active directory, virtualization, cloud computing, the VMware vSphere platform, and VMware’s products, services, and support. Additional skills with storage and backup systems are desirable.
The Sr Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, deploying, configuring, and managing physical and virtualized computer resources within a server, storage, and networking environment.
The Sr Systems Engineer uses VMware’s software tools for designing, testing, and deploying VMware vSphere and VMware ESXi-based virtual infrastructure components.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Supports the ongoing maintenance, both proactive and reactive, of our server environment.
Supports our Storage Area Network and Network Attached Storage solutions across multiple sites.
Performs regular software patching across the solution environment.
Performs capacity planning and manages the hardware and software lifecycle of the server environment.
Works with the network team to ensure that the NSX solution conforms to best practices.
Works with the security team to ensure that patches, firewall policies, host settings, and isolation policies meet our business security requirements.
Collaborates with consumers of the server platform, including Windows, Linux, and app-dev teams to ensure the performance required is delivered.
Identifies automation opportunities and implements accordingly.
Builds extensive documentation both for new and existing solutions.
Other duties as needed.
Specific Knowledge and Skills
Experience and proficient with VMware vSphere 7.x-8.x.
Experience and proficient with VMware vSAN 7.x-8.x.
Experience and proficient with vRealize Suite products (vROPS, vRLI, etc).
Experience and proficient with VMware NSX and VCF.
Experience with VMware VLR v9.
Experience with Dell servers and blades.
Experience with Fibre Channel Storage Arrays (Dell/EMC, Pure, etc).
Cohesity experience is a plus.
VMware HCX experience is a plus.
Powershell experience is a plus.
PowerCLI and/or other scripting languages is a plus.
Strong troubleshooting skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Project Management skills and capable of leading meetings.
5 or more years supporting VMware environments.
Proficiency with core networking concepts and ability to troubleshoot network connectivity issues.
Flexibility to work after-hours as needed and to be a part of an on-call rotation.
Must be able to work on-site when needed at our office and/or regional datacenters.
Willingness to take on additional duties as needed.
Education and Experience
EDUCATION: Associates/2 Yr Degree
YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE: 5+ years
CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES: Microsoft Azure, Windows Server, VMWare preferred.
