Key Responsibilities

Lead and direct all accounting operations, including general ledger, external financial reporting, technical accounting, revenue recognition (commission and fee income), and accounts payable/receivable.

Develop and execute accounting policies, financial reporting standards, general ledger maintenance, and financial systems controls.

Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting closes and prepare financial statements in compliance with GAAP.

Ensure timely and accurate preparation and filing of debt covenant certifications and disclosures under Section 144a.

Implement and maintain robust internal control frameworks, ensuring SOX 404 compliance across the organization.

Ensure proper revenue recognition per ASC 606, especially for contingent commissions, guaranteed supplemental commissions, overrides, and profit‑sharing.

Collaborate with corporate development and M&A teams on due diligence, purchase accounting (ASC 805), integration of acquired agencies, and financial reporting impacts.

Act as primary point of contact for external auditors and manage audit and review processes.

Evaluate new accounting standards and regulatory changes affecting the insurance brokerage industry and implement compliance changes.

Work quarterly with a third‑party valuation firm to estimate fair value of the company.

Develop and maintain brokerage‑specific accounting policies and procedures.

Lead, mentor, and scale a high‑performing accounting team; build processes to support growth and acquisition integration.

Support the CFO and executive leadership with strategic financial planning, variance analysis, and board reporting.

Present financial and accounting matters to the Audit Committee and other stakeholders.

Oversee key accounting systems including updates and segregation of duties.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; Master’s degree or MBA preferred.

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.

15+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in senior leadership at a public company, preferably in insurance or financial services.

Recent experience transitioning from private to public company ownership is a plus.

Strong knowledge of GAAP, SEC reporting, and SOX compliance in a global publicly traded environment.

Experience with revenue recognition for insurance brokerage (ASC 606), M&A accounting (ASC 805), and foreign currency accounting.

Proven leadership and team‑building experience.

Skilled at change management in a rapidly growing, dynamic environment.

High integrity, professionalism, and sound business judgment.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including board, auditor, and regulator engagement.

Preferred Experience

Experience at a publicly traded insurance brokerage or insurance‑related firm.

Background with a Big Four public accounting firm.

Familiarity with ERP and financial reporting systems (e.g., Workday, Oracle).

Experience integrating accounting functions following M&A activity.

Knowledge of statutory and regulatory requirements affecting the insurance brokerage industry.

Benefits and Compensation Base salary range: $300,000 to $350,000, depending on experience and location. Disclosure required under applicable law in California, Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York, New Jersey, and Washington states: The expected salary range for this position is $300,000 to $350,000.
