Position Description The Planning Engineer is responsible for reviewing and interpreting customer drawings and specifications to develop accurate manufacturing plans for printed circuit boards (PCBs). Working closely with CAM operators, this role ensures that all production jobs are properly planned, documented, and aligned with company standards. The Planning Engineer also identifies and communicates any discrepancies in customer documentation.
Duties & Responsibilities
Use ProCim software (or equivalent) to plan jobs accurately, including work order creation and scheduling
Review customer drawings, purchase orders, and specifications; extract and interpret manufacturing requirements; communicate directly with customers as needed
Assemble and validate all manufacturing data (stack-ups, materials, layer counts, drill data, etc.)
Plan and support rigid, flex, and rigid-flex board jobs, including multi-layer, HDI, and sequential lamination
Generate travelers, work instructions, and shop floor documentation per company standards
Verify tooling prints, clearances, and mechanical features prior to production
Identify and communicate discrepancies in customer documentation to sales, customers, or internal stakeholders
Apply relevant IPC standards (e.g. IPC-6012) in planning decisions
Coordinate with CAM, engineering, quality, and production teams to validate manufacturability
Support expedited/rush orders and adjust plans dynamically as required
Maintain revision control for customer data, drawings, and specifications
Monitor job progress, elevate delays or issues, and provide corrective planning feedback
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for planning processes and documentation
Willingness to be cross-trained in other areas
Job Qualifications Required
High school diploma or equivalent
5+ years of relevant experience in the PCB industry, ideally in planning or process engineering
Proficiency with planning, CAM, or ERP systems (ProCim or equivalent)
Demonstrated ability to read and interpret complex mechanical and PCB drawings
Experience with rigid, flex, and rigid-flex PCBs
Familiarity with IPC standards (IPC-6012, /S space addendum, IPC-6013, IPC-6018, etc.)
Experience working with Mil Spec, ANSI, ASME or related specifications
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Effective written and verbal communication skills, with ability to resolve discrepancies
Capacity to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Willingness to work overtime as needed
Preferred
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electronics, or Manufacturing Technology
Prior experience in planning or process engineering roles within PCB manufacturing
Familiarity with continuous improvement or process optimization initiatives
Hourly Pay:
$36 – $44 (based on experience, education, certifications, and specialized skills)
