About The Job The Adjunct Teaching Specialist is a temporary (per course), part‑time, non‑tenured position within the University of Minnesota’s Professional Development and Lifelong Learning Programs.
The role involves developing and teaching online, 6‑week non‑credit courses that blend synchronous Zoom sessions with asynchronous Canvas content.
The position is expected to cover a total of 11 weeks of engagement, including 2 weeks prior to the first course start date and 3 weeks after the last course end date.
Major Responsibilities
Course Development (60%) : Define course outcomes, sequence topics, create learning activities, design assessments, and collaborate with instructional designers and program managers following the course development handbook.
Section Preparation (5%) : Record introduction videos, send introductory emails, verify and update course site contents, and open course modules.
Live Instruction (10%) : Prepare for and facilitate weekly Zoom sessions, following the instructor handbook structure.
Learning Assessment & Feedback (20%) : Grade student work, provide formative feedback, and submit final grades.
Support Learners (5%) : Respond to learner questions via email and LMS, schedule Zoom meetings, and assist with course content and activities.

Financial Stewardship and Resource Management (First course starts August 2026)
Program Leadership (First course starts October 2026)
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree.
Four years of work experience related to the subject matter.
Deep knowledge of the course subject; ability to explain concepts clearly and provide encouraging feedback.
Demonstrated commitment to an inclusive climate that supports diversity in a professional setting.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree and at least six years of related professional experience.
Experience teaching adult learners in live and asynchronous contexts.
Experience developing and/or teaching topics related to the subject matter.
Ability to evaluate assessments for demonstration of learning outcomes.
Pay and Benefits Compensation is paid per course: $5,400 per course for development and $2,162 per course for instruction.
Retirement plan options are available for applicable classifications.
