Senior Functional Safety Engineer
Our client in Normal, IL is looking for a Senior Functional Safety Engineer. This is a contract position.

What You Will Do
Work with engineering, operations and equipment vendors for design and commissioning activities.
Conduct Equipment Safety Buyoffs with a cross‑functional team.
Complete Risk Assessments in accordance with ISO 12100 and the client’s standards.
Must have experience with industrial machinery.
Require either ISO 13849 or NFPA 79 & ANSI B11 field experience.
Participate in equipment acceptance testing and commissioning, evaluating proposed changes to equipment and machinery for safety requirements.
Develop equipment safety standards where needed and continuously improve existing standards.
Identify safety opportunities and suggest corrective actions for continuous improvement.
Create and deliver training related to equipment and machinery safety.
Maintain detailed records of equipment compliance.
Work with department EHS staff to support as needed.
Participate in learning teams, investigations, inspections, audits, etc. as needed.
What You Will Need Basics
Demonstrated familiarity with mechanical, electrical, automation, and control system design.
Experience with ANSI, UL, NFPA, ISO and other applicable standards.
Experience interpreting electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic safety circuits and evaluating performance level & circuit structure.
Comprehensive knowledge of electrical circuit design in accordance with NEC, UL 508a, and NFPA 79.
Preferred
Certified Functional Safety Professional (CFSP/CFSE).
Certified Machine Safety Expert.
Experience in Battery/EV Manufacturing.
Working knowledge of hazardous area classifications, occupancy classification, hazardous material inventories.
