Child Life Specialist (Perioperative) – Boston Children’s Hospital

Position Summary Perioperative Department – Child Life Specialist

Four 10.5 hour days. No weekends or holidays.

Participating in therapeutic activities and programs to meet patients your psychosocial and developmental needs, and facilitating adjustment to health care experiences for patients

Serving as member of multidisciplinary team

Providing support to patients and families from birth to young adults

Key Responsibilities

Common interventions include support for procedures, siblings, development, and bereavement

Providing coping support for patients with both short and long-term hospitalizations

Maintaining resources which include ordering and stocking unit areas

Delegating work assignments to volunteers and participating in clinical training of student interns

Minimum Qualifications Education

Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Child Life, or a closely related field with a concentration in child life.

600‑hour Child Life internship under the supervision of a certified child life specialist.

General skills to resolve problems requiring the use of child development theory, professional child life principles, and experience‑based knowledge.

Well‑developed writing skills, and excellent communication skills including conflict resolution to effectively work as a team member.

Child Life Certification required within 1 year of hire
