POSITION DUTIES
Design, build, debug, and install custom automation equipment
Understand customer requirements and quoted machine concept to define and follow project scope, schedule, and deliverables
Perform sizing calculations as needed and select major off‑the‑shelf automation components, including robots, pneumatics, linear actuators, servo motors, sensors, etc.
Design and detail a wide range of custom machined and fabricated components including small machined parts, large plates, sheet metal, and weldments
Create mechanical assemblies and layouts using 3D and 2D CAD to fully mechanically design automation cells and aid team members in understanding machine function and assembly
Communicate and collaborate with electrical and controls engineering team, machine build, panel build, and electricians through project lifecycle
Create and maintain Bill of Materials and other documentation for procurement
Manage receipt of parts and organize build phase of projects
Size, program, and integrate robotics
Assist with project documentation and machine manuals
Understand and assure compliance with applicable industry safety standards
Lead equipment deployment and support service at customer sites. Some travel is expected
Interact with customers to discuss project schedule and requirements, present designs for review, and provide training and post‑installation support
Support applications and sales team with concepting and quoting future projects
Participate in SET Automation best practices for design, processes, and project management
QUALIFICATIONS
5+ years of mechanical engineering experience
Proficiency in CAD; SOLIDWORKS and AutoCAD preferred
Understanding of mechanical engineering and machine design principles and GD&T
Experience with robotics; Yaskawa and Fanuc preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
Excellent time management and communication skills
Travel flexibility for occasional equipment deployment and service at customer sites
