Introduction Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) is a constituent unit of the Board of Regents for Higher Education (BOR), Connecticut State Colleges and Universities. We are recruiting for two (2) full‑time Maintainer positions, located in Danbury, CT.

Positions Requirements

Full‑time

37.5 hours per week

Work shifts will be either: Tuesday‑Saturday 11:00 pm‑7:00 am or Sunday‑Thursday 11:00 pm‑7:00 am

Eligible candidates must possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.

A medical exam, drug screen, and criminal background check will be required prior to offer of employment.

About The Department Western Connecticut State University’s Facilities – Custodial Services Department is responsible for providing custodial services for both campuses of the University.

About The Role The role of a Maintainer at Western Connecticut State University includes a wide range of tasks to ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of campus facilities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, snow removal during winter months to keep safe passage for students, faculty, and visitors on the Midtown and Westside campuses of WCSU in Danbury, CT. The Maintainer’s role is integral to the university’s commitment to providing a safe and functional academic environment.

Purpose of Job Class (Nature of Work) In a State Agency, this class is accountable for performing basic tasks of an unskilled nature (e.g., requiring little prior experience or training). Tasks can be learned quickly on the job and may include building and equipment maintenance (operational and remedial), grounds care, food services, operation of trucks less than five tons capacity, and parking garage maintenance.

Operate, care for and perform minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work

Record keeping

Minimum Qualifications Any experience and training which provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior custodial experience

Commercial/Industrial cleaning experience

Experience working in a large facility/multiple buildings

Experience operating, caring for and performing minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work

Experience performing simple record keeping

Proven experience installing bulletin boards, pictures, shelving, and moving furniture

Experience with snow removal

Special Requirements Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits, and/or certifications.

Physical Requirements

Incumbents must have adequate physical strength, stamina, agility, visual and auditory acuity, and maintain fitness to perform duties of this class.

A physical examination may be required.

Working Conditions

Incumbents may lift moderate to heavy weights and may be exposed to extreme weather conditions and risk of injury from equipment and abusive clients.

Incumbents may be required to complete an asbestos removal program consistent with EPA guidelines.

Incumbents may be required to use protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles.
