Position Description
The College of Charleston invites qualified applicants for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Applied Exercise Science Department to teach, conduct research, and provide campus and professional community service.
The
Department of Applied Exercise Science
is housed within the recently formed and expanding School of Health Sciences
that also offers undergraduate degrees in Public Health and Health Services Administration and Management and a Fitness and Health Community Testing Program. The successful candidate would work alongside 9 full-time teacher-scholars that serve nearly 400 undergraduate exercise science majors. We are committed to preparing and equipping the next generation of health and fitness professionals and are seeking applicants who share our mission and want to engage with undergraduate students in and outside the classroom through dynamic teaching, professional advising, and research mentorship.
Located in the heart of historic Charleston, South Carolina, the College of Charleston

Applicants must possess an earned PhD degree in exercise science or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution before the August 16, 2026 start date. Applicants must exhibit an ability to teach undergraduate-level students with the promise for teaching excellence. We are specifically seeking an individual with teaching and/or research expertise in exercise nutrition, musculoskeletal assessment and interventions, or sport science. Applicants should show scholarly promise through authorship on professional presentations and peer-reviewed publications in relevant journals. Preference will be given to those with a record of undergraduate teaching and mentoring students through the research process, and an ability to demonstrate active learning techniques in a higher education setting.
