Position Summary
Senior Project Engineer – Dayton, OH – DeSimone Consulting Engineering
The Project Engineer II (SPE) works closely with the Project Manager to support and manage the structural design process from project inception through construction. The SPE conducts structural analysis, prepares detailed plans and specifications, reviews contractor submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs to ensure compliance with the design intent, mentors junior engineers and BIM technicians, and facilitates communication and coordination among clients, architects, municipal agencies, and other design team members.
Responsibilities
Conduct detailed structural analysis and design of industrial, warehouse, distribution and low‑rise mid‑rise buildings.
Prepare drawings, specifications and shop drawings and verify that they meet project technical requirements.
Review contractor submittals, shop drawings and RFIs to ensure compliance with design intent and regulatory standards.
Mentor and supervise junior engineers and BIM technicians.
Coordinate with clients, architects, municipal agencies and other team members to resolve design issues and ensure alignment with project objectives.
Lead technical meetings and client calls to provide project updates and expertise.
Use design software such as Rhino, Revit, RISA, ETABS, SAP, RAM and other applicable tools to develop accurate structural models.
Ensure all work complies with local and national building codes, regulations and quality standards.
Perform back‑checking and precise documentation of project calculations and drawings.
Assist with cost estimating, proposal preparation and budget management.
Support business development and client relationship initiatives as needed.
Qualifications – Required
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or related field); 7 years of experience in structural analysis/design of industrial, warehouse, distribution and low‑rise multi‑story buildings, including project management; or a Master’s degree with 5 years of relevant experience.
Minimum 5 years of experience in low‑ and mid‑rise building design and supervision.
Proficiency with software packages such as ETABS, RAM, RISA, Rhino, PCA and SAFE.
Extensive knowledge of local and national building codes and design practices.
Strong interpersonal, problem‑solving and team skills.
Deep understanding of construction materials and methods.
Proven drafting skills with a portfolio of prior work.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Qualifications – Preferred
Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Experience in precast or tilt‑up buildings.
Experience with Revit and AutoCAD.
Compensation Salary range: $85,000 – $100,000 (depending on experience and qualifications). The hiring salary is anticipated to be near the middle of the range.
