Job Summary / Purpose As a key member of the Project Management team, the Project Engineer is responsible for the management and coordination of all technical aspects of new power generation capital projects. This role ensures that engineering is aligned with corporate goals and is complete, accurate and constructible for all elements of a project's scope. The Project Engineer oversees contractor's engineering performance and coordinates all contractor and owner's engineering interfaces, ensuring projects are completed according to construction drawings, specifications, quality and performance requirements. This position coordinates cross‑functional teams and builds effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.

Job Duties / Responsibilities

Promotes safe behavior and adherence to safety rules on the project.

Identifies engineered safety controls and hazard removal during engineering design; coaches to safe practices in the field.

Supports/Leads a cross‑functional team of internal subject matter experts, owner engineers, EPC contractors and technical consultants from contract development through permitting, engineering, construction, commissioning and closeout.

Ensures documentation of engineering and construction quality is captured to support audit and prudency review.

Supports/Leads owner team in writing official Records of Decision to capture prudency of major project decisions.

Acts as contract manager for engineering and construction contracts outside the EPC, including owner’s engineer.

Performs/Manages the review of engineering design to assure compliance with contract, permits, codes, utility standards and design goals.

Coordinates with the Project Manager in following the Project Delivery System and ensuring requirements are met and producing associated deliverables.

Participates in contractor/vendor selection with a goal of assessing engineering experience, competencies and capability.

Supports/Leads technical open‑book engineering process with contractors during development of major projects and applies value engineering concepts to ensure competitiveness.

Assists contractor and vendors during design and construction to resolve technical queries and interfaces.

Ensures all firms solicited for engineering services are duly licensed in the state of the project.

Ensures compliance with NERC and Security Standards.

Ensures all project documents are stored in designated repository at closeout.

Supports/Leads/follows change management process for potential design changes.

Participates in equipment inspection activities as agreed with the contractor.

Supports/Leads owner review and sign‑off of system turnover packages from construction to start‑up and from EPC to owner.

Supports commissioning and ensures performance, reliability and emissions testing are completed per contract.

Minimum Requirements Education

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.

Advanced degree preferred.

Experience

Project Engineer III: 4+ years of progressive professional experience, preferably in engineering design, construction or operation of power systems.

Project Engineer Sr: 6+ years of progressive experience, preferably in instrument and controls, distributed control systems, turbine control systems, and electrical systems (5 years with a PE/PMP certification or master’s degree).

Project Engineer Sr Lead: 10+ years of progressive experience, preferably in instrument and controls, distributed control systems, turbine control systems, and electrical systems (8 years with a PE/PMP certification or master’s degree).

Project Engineer Sr Staff: 12+ years of progressive experience, preferably in instrument and controls, distributed control systems, turbine control systems, and electrical systems (10 years with a PE/PMP certification or master’s degree).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills with strong computer proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.

Strong interpersonal skills and leadership behaviors.

Expert knowledge of engineering fundamentals within at least one discipline (civil, mechanical, electrical, controls, chemical, construction).

Advanced knowledge of practical application of engineering science and technology to power generation.

Knowledge of materials, methods, tools for construction or repair of power generation facilities and associated QA/QC protocol.

Knowledge of permits required for construction and operation of power generation facilities.

Experience with reviewing, executing, and managing large EPC contracts.

Advanced critical thinking skills and ability to use logic and reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions.

Advanced problem‑solving capability to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

Certificates & Licenses

Desired: Professional Engineer license and PMP certification.
