Field Service Engineer – EDM Intelligent Solutions The Field Service Engineer (FSE) is responsible for supporting integrated metrology systems in various manufacturing environments. The FSE works closely with the EDMIS engineering team and our customers to provide a premium level of hardware service and support. The FSE must become a subject matter expert on our metrology hardware and system integrations. The FSE is responsible for new system integration, installations and field service support while focusing on maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction for all customers.

This position is based in Bartlett, IL.

Responsibilities

Install CNC/robotic metrology systems at customer locations in a manner that ensures customer satisfaction and enhances EDMIS image and reputation.

Perform in-field diagnostic testing, troubleshooting and calibration of electro-optical & electronic components using standard instruments.

Provide effective technical assistance and repair/warranty for in-field equipment.

Diagnose and troubleshoot problems remotely and in person in a timely, accurate, and effective manner.

Grasp customer equipment fault descriptions and respond appropriately.

Interface with various equipment/system components accurately and effectively.

Carry out preventative maintenance programs, ensuring proper machine performance and maintaining required records.

Follow up with customer questions and concerns to ensure full satisfaction.

Provide technical training to customer personnel in basic equipment set‑up, operation, adjustment and preventative maintenance.

Use effective customer‑service communication skills at all organizational levels.

Promote customer relations and satisfaction by completing jobs on schedule and displaying a helpful attitude.

Consistently maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.

Maintain high service standards and professional appearance.

Report any customer‑relations issues to the Customer Service Manager.

Provide technical operational data and feedback to enable proper documentation of system performance/quality and to assist in system improvements.

Maintain and improve technical knowledge to perform effectively and assist customers and employees.

Stay knowledgeable about current metrology systems product line (electrical, mechanical, controls, software, and operations) and keep updated on new systems.

Share newly acquired knowledge as appropriate.

Provide technical advice and support to customers and company personnel.

Complete service reports and documentation promptly.

Perform work in compliance with all customer and company safety rules and practices, maintaining a neat and orderly work area.

Perform related work as apparent or assigned.

Technical Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field.

1+ years of relevant work or internship experience in an equipment field‑service and/or technical‑support role (preferred).

Experience with CNC manufacturing equipment, robotics, machine tools, microscopy, metrology, measuring equipment, etc. (preferred).

Strong understanding and spatial awareness of multiple 3D coordinate systems and their relation within a workspace.

Understanding of systems utilizing 12 Vdc, 24 Vdc, 110 Vac, 220 Vac, and 480 Vac operating voltages with single and multiple phases.

Hands‑on experience fabricating integrated systems electrical panels, wiring disconnect switches, circuit breakers, servo amplifiers, controls, network switches, and other electronic devices (plus).

Basic understanding of pneumatic systems with operating pressures up to 150 psi (plus).

Basic experience with NC programming language (M‑Code / G‑Code or similar) (plus).

Ability to read technical documentation including wiring diagrams.

Ability to use diagnostic tools such as digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.

Ability to read technical drawings (electrical and/or dimensioned mechanical).

Ability to navigate advanced settings within Windows 10, including network troubleshooting and installing software (plus).

Experience working with CMMs, laser trackers, and/or 3D scanners (plus).

Personal Requirements

Self‑motivated, organized, responsible, and able to plan, execute, and document technical support applications.

Ability to complete responsibilities with little supervision.

Creative, organized, and strong technical problem‑solving skills.

Fluent in English, both written and verbal; other language skills are a plus.

Excellent communication and customer‑service skills.

Exercise personal discretion and independent judgment effectively.

Ability to travel by air and ground within the United States to customer facilities; requires a valid, unrestricted driver’s license and ability to maintain a qualified driver’s status.

Employment contingent upon successful verification of U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status, background check, and drug screen, subject to applicable laws. No U.S. work‑visa sponsorship. Background check requirements meet EDMIS and customer expectations.
