This role will be a plan review and inspections role in the Building/Electrical Trade. The applicant will need to have an extensive background in contracting and construction of large commercial projects (High‑rise, Hospitals, Hotels, Stadiums, Multifamily Apartments). WHO WILL I BE WORKING WITH?

This is a dual role of both plan review and inspections in the Mega‑Multi Family Team within Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement. This position will have work environments in the office and the field. This position interacts with Contractors, Architects, Engineers, Owners, and other Agencies related to the prescribed projects. Customer interactions are in person, on the phone, via email, and/or text. WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

The position is responsible for reviewing electronically submitted project plans for compliance with the applicable NC State Codes. The position is also responsible for providing inspections and consultations to the projects that fall within the parameters of a Mega Project and ensuring their compliance to NC State Codes. This would include (but not limited to) Very Large and Complex Commercial Structures. The geographic work area would include the City of Charlotte, the unincorporated areas of Charlotte, and all the six townships located in Mecklenburg County. This position often answers permitting, plan review, & technical code related questions from our Customers and other Staff. A NC Standard Certificate Level III in Building, Electrical is required for this position. Review the professional design documents and inspections of the most complex commercial projects for compliance with all applicable codes. This position, under general supervision, will provide consultative services and participate in building code and legislative processes. May also be responsible for performing investigations in response to fires or public complaints. Essential Functions

Examine professional design documents to ascertain compliance with applicable codes and assure public safety, health, and welfare of the community. Perform the most complex field inspections, enter results, defect codes, and notes on commercial and residential projects to ensure compliance with all applicable codes. Approve or reject documents utilizing supporting code, discipline, general statutes, and policy references. Evaluate specific projects for time of review and processes applications for time estimates. Execute final sign off and approval for construction design documents. Provide consultation before, during, and following plans examination and construction: educate design professionals and contractors regarding policies, procedures, and codes; analyze and suggest methods for design modifications. Participate in code‑making processes; provide logic, consistency, clarity, and fairness in code changes, applications, and interpretations. Contribute to department and industry safety objectives by actively participating in professional organization education, legislative, administrative, and code processes. Prepare and analyze inspection reports to include collecting data and writing reports. Complete assigned inspections to meet the customer’s schedule. Assist fire personnel at emergency incidents if needed. Minimum Qualifications

Experience: - Minimum of three years of experience in the design/construction of commercial buildings or two years of inspections experience. Education

Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or related field. Combination of relevant education and experience accepted: Yes. Licenses and Certifications

Requires Level III certification in at least one construction trade, or ability to obtain a Level III certification within one year of hire. Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License. Requires County Driving Privileges. Annual Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check required. Preferred Qualifications

Professional Architect and Engineer. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of all applicable building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire and related codes. Applicable rules, laws and regulations. Practices and procedures related to code violations. Customer service principles. Inspection procedures. Local and State ordinances and laws relative to building construction and zoning regulations. Basic principles and practices of engineering. Building and construction materials and methods. Legislative processes. Principles, practices and methods of building design. Abilities

Ability to operate notebook computer or IOS device. General knowledge in various computer programs including Microsoft Office Suite. Work Environment
