Staff or Senior Staff RF Hardware Design Engineer
Join to apply for the Staff or Senior Staff RF Hardware Design Engineer role at GreenWave™ Radios.
Overview InnoPhase Inc., DBA GreenWave™ Radios™, is at the forefront of innovation in Open RAN digital radios. Our cutting‑edge solutions, powered by the Hermes64 RF SoC, are designed to enhance network energy efficiency while dramatically reducing operational expenses, with purpose‑built silicon that is the heart of ORAN‑based active antenna arrays.
Headquartered in San Diego, California, GreenWave Radios™ has established itself as a pioneer in delivering power‑efficient digital‑to‑RF solutions. The company is supported by a talented team of over 100 engineers spread across four global R&D facilities, and holds more than 120 global patents.
Job Description We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Staff or Senior Staff RF/Hardware Design Engineer to lead the development of advanced 5G radio hardware. The ideal candidate will have in‑depth technical expertise in RF circuit design, system integration, and validation for wireless infrastructure or user equipment, and a proven track record of delivering high‑performance designs from concept through production.
You will work closely with cross‑functional teams, including system architects, digital designers, and firmware engineers, to define and implement next‑generation 5G hardware infrastructure platforms that push the limits of performance, reliability, and efficiency.
Responsibilities
Lead the design and development of RF, supply, and RF circuits for front‑end (RFFE) and transceiver modules for 4G and 5G NR (sub‑6 GHz) systems.
Perform schematic capture, component selection, simulation, layout review, and design optimization for performance, manufacturability, and cost.
Define and execute RF test plans, including S‑parameter, noise figure, linearity, P1dB, IIP3, VSWR, and ACLR measurements.
Drive PCB design reviews, ensuring proper RF layout techniques, grounding, impedance control, and thermal design.
Collaborate with system and baseband teams to define RF system architecture, interfaces, and calibration requirements.
Conduct signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) analysis for high‑speed digital and mixed‑signal sections.
Support bring‑up, troubleshooting, and validation of prototypes in the lab.
Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and contribute to long‑term hardware roadmap planning.
Requirements
Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or related field.
10+ years of hands‑on experience in RF/hardware design for wireless communication systems.
Strong knowledge of RF circuit design, including LNAs, PAs, mixers, PLLs, filters, power supply, clock and matching networks.
Experience with RF simulation tools (Keysight ADS, Cadence AWR, or equivalent).
Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB layout tools (Cadence Allegro, Altium, etc.).
Solid understanding of RF specifications, including RF performance metrics.
Hands‑on lab experience with RF instruments: vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and oscilloscopes.
Experience in system‑level debugging and hardware bring‑up.
Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills, with a strong ability to collaborate in cross‑functional teams.
Desirable Skills
Experience with mass production design for 5G infrastructure, small cells, or mobile platforms.
Understanding thermal design and mechanical constraints in RF systems.
Experience with EMC/EMI design and compliance testing.
Advanced degree (Ph.D.) in RF/Microwave Engineering or related field.
