Head of Agriculture, Arboriculture and Environmental Conservation About The Role and Person

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Capel Manor College, and we are now seeking to appoint a Head of Agriculture, Arboriculture and Environmental Conservation (AAEC). The successful candidate will be responsible for leading, developing and managing this specialist curriculum area across the College campuses. Working collaboratively and innovatively with staff, the role will foster a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring high standards of teaching, learning and student achievement.

The post holder will provide strategic oversight of curriculum planning and development, ensuring provision is industry-led, compliant and aligned with the College’s strategic priorities and the wider green skills agenda.

Responsibilities

Lead and motivate staff to deliver consistently high‑quality teaching and learning.

Have strategic insight into the livestock and crop production industries, supporting the improvement journey at Forty Hall Farm and ensuring compliance with DEFRA, APHA, and the Animal Welfare Act.

Lead the curriculum for agriculture, arboriculture, environmental conservation provision at Enfield, Mottingham and Forty Hall Farm, and introduce relevant curriculum at other campuses where required.

Ensure effective quality assurance, self‑assessment and compliance with Ofsted’s Education Inspection Framework.

Strengthen employer and industry partnerships, supporting curriculum innovation, higher‑level skills and progression routes.

Support the delivery of high‑quality off‑the‑job training for apprentices, ensuring staff are trained in apprenticeship delivery requirements.

Qualifications & Experience The ideal candidate will hold a teaching qualification (PGCE or DTLLS) and a relevant higher‑level vocational or academic qualification in agriculture, arboriculture, conservation or a related land‑based discipline.

Experience of working in the land‑based industries is essential, with evidence of delivering teaching and learning to a consistently high standard.

Experience of strategic leadership in livestock and crop production within a college environment is essential.
