About the Role: The Assistant Controller is a mid-level leadership position on the financial services team that is responsible for overseeing accounting activities, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance, managing internal controls, and assisting with budgets and process improvements.

Developing strong professional relationships with other leaders throughout the company will shape the level of success you can achieve defining company accounting policies and procedures, train and support junior team members and lead process improvement and automation initiatives.

What Will You Do?

Reconcile bank statements monthly

Ensure all cash entries are posted correctly and promptly

Perform and review analysis and reconciliation of Balance Sheet accounts

Calculate monthly and year end journal entries, prepare, review, and post entries.

Post intercompany entries monthly

Prepare intercompany sales and COGS data

Support the month and year-end close process

Coordinate and assist with budgeting process

Facilitate preparation of data for bank exams and audits

Prepare financial analysis reports for management

Research accounting issues for compliance with GAAP

Research accounting issues for compliance with Mexican accounting standards

Analyze and report on cost variances

Back up for Sr. Accountant on daily tasks

Back up for Sr. Accountant to review weekly Freight Pay data imports for completion and accuracy

Prepare and maintain spreadsheets for analysis purposes

Review changes in monthly preparation of the Borrowing Base Certificate

Ensure compliance with the financial procedures of the organization

Work with confidential data, which if disclosed might have significant internal or external effect

Assist with other tasks and special projects as needed

What We’re Looking For:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or relevant field of study

5-7 years’ experience working in professional accounting environment

Solid understanding of GAAP

Experience managing a team

Experience in general ledger accounting and financial reporting

Experience managing credit and collections

Experience reviewing financial statements, account recs, and entering JE’s

Good communication skills

Hands-on familiarity with month-end and year-end close processes

Exposure to audit processes (internal and external)

Proficiency in financial analysis and budgeting

Knowledge of internal controls and compliance requirements

Ability to prepare and review financial statements

Skilled in reconciliations and variance analysis

Familiarity with tax filings and regulatory reporting

Project management and process improvement capabilities

High attention to detail and accuracy

Strong organizational and time management abilities

Integrity and commitment to ethical standards

Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Adaptability in a fast-paced or changing environment
