Technical Director, Engineer (Sediment Site Investigation & Risk Assessment)

Join ERM as a Technical Director to lead our sediment Site Investigation and Remediation Management (SI/RM) service team in the Pacific Northwest. The role offers an optional hybrid or fully remote arrangement for candidates located within 100 miles of an ERM office, providing technical leadership, strategic direction, and cutting‑edge solutions for marine and freshwater sediment site projects. Responsibilities

Direct and develop feasibility studies, remedial designs, and remedial strategies for CERCLA and other sediment remediation sites. Provide strategic advice to clients for sediment remediation sites and collaborate with global practitioners on complex investigation and remediation projects, including Brownfields redevelopment, environmental construction management, ecological restoration, and site closure. Oversee projects within scope, budget, and schedule expectations, ensuring quality standards on all deliverables. Expand ERM’s SI/RM services by identifying new opportunities, preparing proposals, and leading business development with new and existing clients. Develop client relationships to generate repeat business and enhance ERM’s market share in the SI/RM sector. Cross‑sell other ERM consulting services, including nature‑based solutions, to existing clients. Provide leadership in staff performance management, recruitment, retention, and mentorship for the technical team. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in environmental, chemical, or civil engineering or a related discipline. Professional Engineer license. 8+ years of experience in remedial construction design/engineering and CERCLA‑style state and federal sediment site assessment, investigation, and remediation projects. 8+ years of experience managing large sediment site investigation/remediation projects. Excellent writing, communication, strategic thinking, and mentoring skills. Advanced knowledge of regulatory climate around sediment site investigation and remediation and recognized expertise by the marketplace. Business development experience on large programs/contracts and existing client relationships is preferred. Litigation experience related to sediment sites is desirable. Ability to travel to sediment sites and attend client and/or stakeholder meetings. Valid driver’s license and/or ability to operate a company vehicle for frequent travel across a large geographical area. Position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship. Preferred Requirements

Master’s or Ph.D. in environmental, chemical, or civil engineering or a related discipline. 15+ years of experience in remedial construction design/engineering and CERCLA‑style state and federal sediment site assessment, investigation, and remediation projects. 10+ years of experience managing large sediment site investigation/remediation projects. Compensation & Benefits

Annual base pay range: $152,572 – $190,976 USD, subject to qualifications, experience, and geographic location. This role may be eligible for bonus pay. Benefits include paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, 401(k), and other benefits for eligible employees. Who We Are
