Assistant Corporation Counsel I - Legal Information and Prosecutions Division The City of Chicago Law Department is seeking an attorney for the position of Assistant Corporation Counsel (ACC) I in the Legal Information and Prosecutions (LIP) Division. The ACC I will serve under the general supervision of the Division’s Supervisors, Chief, and Deputy.

Responsibilities

Prosecute Chicago Municipal Code violations in Cook County Circuit Court, including Traffic Court, Branch Courts, and the City’s Department of Administrative Hearings.

Defend administrative decisions from the City’s Department of Administrative Hearings filed as an administrative appeal in Circuit Court.

Represent the City in Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) matters, document production, electronic discovery (e-discovery), and Local Records Act (LRA) matters.

Try cases; conduct hearings; research and write motions, memoranda, and briefs; litigate administrative appeals; argue motions; negotiate settlements; review and analyze files; and recommend appropriate courses of action.

Qualifications and Experience

Graduate of an American Bar Association accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree.

Admission to the Illinois Bar (or eligible for admission on motion under Illinois Supreme Court Rule 705).

Good standing with the state Attorney Registration & Disciplinary Commission.

Superior writing, research, and editing skills.

Superior written and verbal communication skills.

Experience counseling and advising clients.

Some administrative proceeding or Circuit Court courtroom experience.

Ability to work well with others, exhibit sound judgment, initiate assigned tasks, and organize, prioritize, monitor, and control workflow deadlines.

Salary $78,108.00 – $130,128.00 (based on experience and credentials).
