What this job involves: As the Horticultural Systems Engineer at JLL on our dedicated Amazon account, you will manage all interior horticultural aspects of Amazon's Puget Sound-based Corporate Headquarters while reporting to the Community Landscape Manager. You will be responsible for engineering, operating, and optimizing interior planted spaces including living walls and related proprietary technology across sites in Seattle, Bellevue, and Redmond. This role ensures reliable operation of environmental controls, irrigation and automation while supporting sustainability initiatives and collaborating with third‑party vendors and horticulture staff to achieve optimal plant growth and site performance. You will play a vital role in JLL's commitment to delivering transformative real estate solutions by bringing Amazon to the forefront of biodiversity, nature‑based design, and community benefit while maintaining high‑quality interior landscape environments that enhance workplace experiences.
What your day-to-day will look like:
Manage all interior landscape features including living walls and planted beds from installation to maintenance across Amazon's Puget Sound campus buildings
Monitor, maintain, and operate horticulture systems and equipment, including irrigation, lighting, and environmental controls
Conduct routine rounds and inspections to ensure plant health, assess system performance and identify issues
Respond to alarms, incidents, and maintenance requests promptly while ensuring quality control
Perform preventative maintenance on critical equipment such as pumps, valves, sensors, and PLCs
Analyze data from environmental monitoring systems to ensure optimal growing conditions
Coordinate with plant maintenance staff and manage vendors to align engineering support with plant care needs
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Agricultural, Mechanical, Environmental, or related Engineering field
3+ years of experience in facilities engineering, building systems, or horticultural site operations
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with experience in irrigation systems, environmental controls, and automation
Experience with PLCs and Building Management Systems (BMS)
Background in effectively collaborating and communicating with large groups or teams in corporate environments
Ability to read and interpret as‑built diagrams to optimize plant installation designs
Vendor management and quality control implementation experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional Engineer (PE) certification or Pesticide Applicators License
Proficiency in technical tools such as CAD software and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
Experience with water chemistry as it relates to hydroponic systems
Knowledge of modular planted systems and living wall technologies
Project management experience, including vendor and contractor oversight
Demonstrated interest in sustainability, horticulture, or urban agriculture
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work independently
Location: On‑site – Seattle, WA
Estimated compensation for this position: 108,500.00 – 157,300.00 USD per year
This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
