Position Summary Traylor Bros., Inc., a national heavy civil contractor, is seeking a Payroll Supervisor to lead payroll operations across multiple U.S. and Canadian entities. This role provides hands-on leadership of the payroll function, ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely processing of employee pay and benefits. The Payroll Supervisor will collaborate closely with Corporate Accounting, HR, and Operations teams to streamline payroll procedures, maintain compliance with union and regulatory requirements, and implement process improvements that support the strategic growth of the Traylor Family of Companies.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Oversight: Lead and mentor payroll administrators, promoting accuracy, accountability, and professional growth.

Manage end-to-end payroll operations for multiple entities, ensuring timely and compliant processing.

Serve as a subject-matter expert and primary contact for payroll-related inquiries from employees, management, and external parties.

Compliance & Reporting: Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and provincial tax laws, wage and hour regulations, and union agreements.

Ensure all payroll and benefit processes adhere to company policies, internal controls, and applicable laws.

Prepare and review payroll-related reports, including tax filings (federal, state, and local), W-2s, and Affordable Care Act reporting.

Oversee union reporting and remittance of dues, benefits, and other required payments.

Systems Management & Process Improvement: Manage payroll system configurations, including tax tables, benefit deductions, and employee setup.

Identify opportunities for process automation and standardization to improve payroll accuracy and efficiency.

Perform journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger support to ensure financial accuracy.

Partner with IT and Finance to maintain data integrity and streamline payroll-related system workflows.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with HR, Benefits, and Accounting to resolve discrepancies and ensure consistency across employee data, benefits, and compensation.

Support audits, compliance reviews, and system implementations as needed.

Contribute to the continuous improvement of company-wide policies and key performance indicators (KPIs).

Additional Duties: Perform other tasks and special projects as assigned by the Payroll Manager.

Occasional travel (approximately 5%) for meetings, job site visits, or training.

Qualifications Required

5–7 years of experience in multi-state U.S. payroll management and supervisory roles.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience.

Strong knowledge of U.S. payroll regulations, tax reporting, and general ledger integration.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and payroll systems (e.g., JD Edwards, ADP, or similar).

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

Preferred

Knowledge of Canadian payroll and provincial tax compliance.

Experience with union payroll administration.

Proven success in process improvement, automation, or system implementation initiatives.

Physical Requirements Ability to perform the essential functions of the job consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards. Regular, punctual attendance and clear verbal and written communication. Primarily sedentary role with occasional walking or standing; must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.
