Overview The Grocery/Bulk Assistant assists the Grocery/Bulk Manager in the successful operation and profitability of the Grocery/Bulk department, ensuring a customer‑focused, organized, and profitable environment.

Responsibilities

Providing world‑class customer service as the number one priority.

Exemplifying integrity, responsibility, and excellence and adhering to all policies.

Creating inviting, full, and shoppable departments.

Assisting the grocery/bulk department manager in ordering and maintaining accurate inventory levels.

Managing margin, COGs, and overall department profitability, including minimizing shrink and maximizing effective purchasing.

Ensuring all in‑stock products and conditions meet company standards.

Offering and following up on special orders.

Merchandising shelves, endcaps, and dynamic displays.

Participating in tagging, facing, rotating, cleaning, markdowns, stocking, and backstock.

Assisting with training and monitoring of department personnel, including assigning and following up on tasks.

Conducting active and passive product demonstrations.

Working with the department manager to address performance issues within the department.

Supporting store opening and closing activities, including Daily Sales Report (DSR), cash handling, and cashier closeout responsibilities.

Handling register functions, including backup cashiering, managing customer returns, addressing complaints, and covering register shift changes.

Maintaining safety and security for customers and employees.

Answering customer questions per company standards and policies, including the use of health‑supportive or nutritional support statements.

Continuously increasing product knowledge.

Using SAP and other inventory management software, emailing, and utilizing other IS programs as needed.

Working a schedule based on store needs, including evenings, weekends, holidays; attending mandatory store meetings.

This position has limited Manager on Duty, never intended to be overall Manager on Duty for the store.

Although this is a general outline of job responsibilities, all employees are expected to be “hands on” and do whatever it takes to get the job done and help the company thrive.

Qualifications

High School diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.

1 year of experience in a grocery or retail environment preferred; natural foods background is a plus.

1 year of supervising experience preferred.

Ability to pass food safety training courses and/or certifications as required by law and maintain compliance.

Ability to manage changing priorities and stay focused on tasks.

Sense of urgency, excellent customer service skills, and highly organized with great attention to detail.

Ability to take direction and follow through.

Must be cashier trained and able to count currency.

Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
