Job Summary The Department of Animal Sciences' Dairy Research Unit is seeking an Agricultural Assistant I. This position is involved in all aspects of the research dairy operation, including but not limited to assisting with milking, cleaning, livestock handling, and health and reproductive observations of animals at the facility. The role covers night shift milking and may require flexible hours.

Responsibilities

Assist with milking operations, observing milking facility and herd management performance; record milk production daily in AFI Milk.

Maintain milking, washing, and cooling systems; ensure proper milk delivery to storage locations.

Onboard and train new parlor employees, students, and volunteers; participate in continuing training courses.

Provide adequate clean drinking water, feed, and bedding to cows; keep stalls and barns clean and well-maintained.

Observe animal health, perform treatments, administer injections, monitor lameness, and record data according to dairy unit SOPs.

Assist with newborn calf care, including feeding, bedding, and water provision.

Support research-related tasks, maintain accurate records, keep facilities clean, and comply with written SOPs.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma and 2 years of relevant dairy experience.

Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Strong work ethic.

Experience in dairy animal care.

Schedule & Compensation Normal work schedule: night shift from 5:00 pm to 1:30 am with a 30‑minute shift break. Expected salary: $17‑$19 per hour, commensurate with experience.
