Duties & Responsibilities
The Development Coordinator works directly with Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) colleagues to achieve VCU fundraising and engagement goals by performing a wide variety of administrative, logistical, operational, and technical tasks for designated colleges, schools, and units (CSU). Serves as the central point of contact for responding to constituent inquiries, anticipating volunteer and donor needs, and leveraging university resources.
Provides support for administrative needs including managing calendars, planning travel and donor visit itineraries, conducting research, drafting letters and briefs, maintaining Excel documentation, providing fiscal/budget support, and project management.
Provides timely travel, purchasing, and reimbursement assistance for fundraising staff.
Coordinates, implements, and tracks donor acknowledgment processes by drafting personal and detailed acknowledgment letters and other special correspondence.
Assists with planning and execution of events supporting fundraising and stewardship for designated CSUs.
Enters development actions with donors into VCU’s donor database.
Assists with donor and gift intent data integrity with Gifts and Records Management.
Supports donor relations/stewardship projects and initiatives, including creating and tracking university gift agreements.
Assists in assembling development proposals presented to prospective donors.
Serves as initial point of contact for the office, determining matters that require attention of others and referring as needed.
Maintains confidentiality while determining appropriate responses to sensitive and complex issues.
Think strategically, anticipate necessary actions, and provide support materials independently.
Takes and shares meeting minutes; drafts development team meeting agendas.
Participates in trainings and shares information with the team.
Acts as an active team player in projects requiring full collaboration.
Anticipates project needs and discerns priorities within budget and deadline.

Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree from an accredited university, or equivalent experience.
Computer proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, and Google Suite.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Strong time‑management, prioritization, and multitasking skills.
Ability to implement and manage budgets and project plans.
Detail‑oriented and organized.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
High level of customer service.
Ability to navigate complex working environments with multiple stakeholders.

Experience fostering respect, professionalism, and civility among diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with scheduling and calendar management (Google Calendar).
Experience managing travel reimbursements and procurement policies.

Previous experience working in a non‑profit or university advancement organization.
