Overview The Physical/Occupational Therapy Technician (PT/OT Tech) assists PT/OT staff and the direct patient team with treatment procedures in an outpatient or inpatient setting under the direct supervision of a licensed staff member.

Essential Functions

Assist PT/OT staff with patient mobility, exercise practice, transport, equipment inspection, supply procurement, and basic office functions.

Provide infection control processes and a supportive patient care environment.

Collaborate with the interprofessional care team to communicate patient care information.

Identify opportunities for process improvement, report near‑miss incidents, and contribute to quality and safety targets.

Maintain equipment, manage supplies, and support departmental productivity and inventory goals.

Participate in department projects, committees, and performance improvement initiatives.

Adhere to rehabilitation standards and guidelines to ensure optimal patient safety and customer service.

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent (GED, etc.).

Experience in a healthcare setting highly preferred.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or instructor (AHA) required.

Proficiency in English (speaking, reading, writing) sufficient for patient and colleague communication.

Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and customer‑service skills.

Proficient computer knowledge and ability to operate rehabilitation equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to safely perform assigned tasks through ongoing competency assessments.

Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members, and co‑workers.

Leadership and supportive teamwork with all levels of the healthcare team.

Proficiency in computer systems and standard rehabilitation equipment.

Organize workflows, manage priorities, and engage in problem‑solving.

Create a supportive environment that enhances patient quality of life.

Additional Requirements

Uniform: Scrubs Yes, Business professional No, Other department approved Yes.

On‑call: None required.

Travel: May require travel within the Houston Metropolitan area – No; outside Houston Metropolitan area – No.
