Job Title Assistant Region Traffic Engineer (Engineer III) – Region Two, Salt Lake City, Utah

Job Description The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is looking for an organized, motivated and skilled individual to fill the Assistant Region Traffic Engineer (Engineer III) position in Region Two.

Principal Duties

Assist in coordination of active transportation and regional safety efforts.

Discuss, review and interpret plans and specifications.

Design, develop, and conduct a variety of research projects.

Prepare engineering and design documents.

Represent UDOT Region Two on engineering/planning teams for regional studies and other planning efforts, traffic and safety studies, and project teams.

Perform and review crash analyses and present findings at region and UDOT-wide meetings.

Assist and coordinate with UDOT Traffic Operations Center (TOC) and others on traffic modeling, studies, and planning efforts.

Respond to public inquiries related to traffic and safety.

Lead or mentor staff.

Complete other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

A Professional Engineer (PE) license in Utah in accordance with the provisions of Utah Code Annotated 58-22.

Utah State Licensure in the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE).

A valid driver's license.

Knowledge of the principles, theories, and practices of civil engineering.

The ability to read and interpret maps, plats, charts, plans, and blueprints.

The ability to perform scientific and technical research.

The ability to use engineering data processing application programs.

Preference May be given to those who have completed Roadside Safety Design training.

Salary and Levels This Position May Be Filled At The Engineer II Level (salary range $34,390 - $57,570) for Those Applicants Without a Professional Engineer (PE) License In Utah. To qualify, candidates must have a bachelor's degree in engineering, proof of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE), and completed at least two years of post‑graduate engineering experience. A master's degree in a related field will be considered as the post‑graduate experience.

Working Conditions: Risks found in the typical office setting, adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations.

Physical Requirements: Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; may involve walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, driving a automobile.

Employee may be reassigned to a different location as deemed necessary by the Region Director / Group Leader.

Department of Human Resource Management rules regarding promotions and transfers apply to current state employees.
