Salary Range: $6,046 - $8,129 Monthly
This position is represented by Teamsters 117 bargaining unit and requires the candidate of choice to work in facility for each shift. The Washington State Department of Corrections is seeking an experienced and dedicated public servant to join the Washington Corrections Center for Women as a Corrections & Custody Officer 3.
Job Summary As a CCO3, you will maintain custody and control of offenders at Washington Corrections Center Women, an adult correctional facility. This supervisory role promotes safety and security by directing lower‑level staff in controlling, directing, and monitoring the activities and movement of adult offenders. You will be responsible for providing excellent communication to upper leadership regarding current and potential situations occurring in the facility.
Responsibilities
Supervise corrections and custody officers, including planning, assigning, and reviewing staff work, adjusting assignments and schedules as needed.
Provide on‑the‑job training and monitor completion of training requirements.
Serve as a positive role model and evaluate employee performance with performance appraisals.
Ensure security of the institution and control movement into, out of, and within the institution in accordance with established procedures.
Work with staff to enhance safety and security, providing tools and skills for safe operations.
Monitor offender activities and movements, supervising lower‑level staff for quality control.
Oversee operation of gates, cameras, turnstiles, and other movement control systems to ensure safe movement of offenders and staff.
Apply appropriate, constructive, and professional authority when working with a diverse population of offenders.
Conduct searches and inspections in accordance with established methods.
Communicate information to supervisors and staff regarding concerns and issues.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Required: Three years’ experience as a correctional officer in adult corrections, or successful completion of 30 semester (or 45 quarter) hours of accredited college coursework plus two years’ adult correctional experience, or equivalent combination.
Observation, technology, stress tolerance, professional standards, adaptability, and communication skills as described in the original posting.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supervising staff in a correctional environment.
Ability to receive coaching, follow instructions, and provide constructive feedback.
