Job Summary:

The Laboratory Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood and other specimens from patients in a safe, accurate, and timely manner for diagnostic testing. This role requires excellent patient care skills and a strong understanding of specimen handling, labeling, and processing protocols. The phlebotomist works closely with patients, nurses, and laboratory personnel in a variety of healthcare settings.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform venipunctures, finger sticks, and heel sticks to collect specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Verify patient identity and ensure proper labeling of all specimens.
  • Prepare specimens for transport or processing, following all safety and quality protocols.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient interactions and specimen collections.
  • Provide excellent patient service, ensuring comfort and reassurance during procedures.
  • Follow infection control and safety guidelines at all times.
  • Assist with specimen accessioning, test ordering, and data entry as needed.
  • Maintain inventory and cleanliness of phlebotomy supplies and work area.


  • Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a certified phlebotomy training program.
  • Strong knowledge of blood collection techniques and medical terminology.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environments and handle multiple priorities.

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in a hospital, clinic, or laboratory setting.
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) or laboratory information systems (LIS).
  • Bilingual skills are a plus in diverse patient populations.


  • Certifications:
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT I) – state
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT I) – if outside state
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an accredited provider (e.g., AHA or Red Cross)
