Job Summary The
Wound Care RN
is responsible for the
assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
of comprehensive skin and wound care for patients across various care settings, including inpatient, outpatient, home health, and long‑term care. This position ensures delivery of
evidence‑based wound management , monitors healing progression, and collaborates with the healthcare team to optimize patient outcomes. The RN also provides education and serves as a clinical resource to staff and patients regarding wound prevention and treatment.
Supervision Supervisory Responsibilities:
None
Duties and Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive wound assessments, including
pressure injuries, surgical wounds, diabetic ulcers, venous/arterial ulcers,
and
traumatic wounds.
Develop and implement
individualized wound care plans
in collaboration with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary team members.
Apply appropriate wound care treatments such as
debridement, dressing changes, and negative pressure wound therapy.
Monitor and document wound healing progression; update care plans and interventions as needed.
Educate
patients, families, and clinical staff
on wound prevention, care techniques, and product use.
Serve as a
resource and consultant
for nursing staff on advanced wound care protocols and products.
Participate in
wound care rounds, interdisciplinary case conferences,
and
performance improvement initiatives.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the
Electronic Health Record (EHR).
Ensure adherence to
infection control policies, safety procedures,
and
regulatory compliance standards.
Education, Certifications, and Licenses
Required:
Graduate of an
accredited nursing program
(ADN or BSN preferred).
Required:
Current, active
Registered Nurse (RN)
license in the state of practice.
Preferred:
Wound Care Certification
(e.g., WOCN, WCC, CWCN).
Experience
1–2 years
of wound care or medical-surgical nursing experience preferred.
Experience in
emergency medicine
or
urgent care
a plus but not required.
Open to
new graduates
with strong clinical skills and interest in wound management.
Experience or training in
point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS)
and
diagnostic radiography
preferred.
Knowledge of
advanced airway management
and
procedural sedation
desirable.
Required Skills and Abilities
Strong
clinical judgment
and decision-making abilities.
Solid understanding of
wound care techniques, dressings, and products.
Excellent
communication and interpersonal skills
with patients and interdisciplinary teams.
Proficiency with
Electronic Health Record (EHR)
systems.
Ability to work independently while collaborating within a clinical team environment.
