Community Connections, Inc.
The Staff Accountant is responsible for the preparation and maintenance of timely and accurate accounting records for Community Connections, Inc. (CCI), and its affiliated companies (CCREF and Romark). Key duties include maintaining financial records, preparing financial statements, ensuring compliance with specific grants and regulations in a healthcare non-profit setting, maintenance of general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, cash and bank reconciliation, processing and posting journal entries, month-end close, credit card accounting, and generating financial reports.
Salary Range: $60,800 - $91,200 based on experience
Key Responsibilities
Prepares and posts journal entries for various transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.
Ensures accuracy and timely recording of transactions and ensures compliance with internal controls and accounting policies, as well as relevant government regulations and nonprofit accounting standards.
Reconciles all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis.
Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifying deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
Reconciles cash disbursement accounts, payroll, and other financial accounts.
Assists in month-end and year-end closing processes to ensure financial reports are accurate and completed on time.
Processes accounts receivable and payable transactions.
Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
Assists with budget preparation and monthly monitoring.
Tracks and reports on financial status of grants, assist with payroll processing and related reports as needed.
Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit and tax filings.
Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures. Continuously improves financial processes to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Provides support for special projects and other duties as assigned.
In addition to role responsibilities, each staff member of Community Connections has the following responsibilities as a part of their employment: Models and reinforces Community Connections mission to provide behavioral health, residential services, and primary health care coordination for marginalized and disenfranchised women, men, youth, and children living in the District of Columbia, many of whom are coping with challenges including mental illness, addiction, and the aftermath of trauma and abuse. Desired Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business.
At least 3-4 years of previous accounting software experience.
