From analyzing community disorder and traffic trends to supporting internal operations, the Crime Analyst helps drive proactive, data-driven policing that makes a tangible difference for our residents.**Essential Tasks & Responsibilities:*** Gathers, selects, compiles, and analyzes crime and other data pertaining to characteristics of the community to determine high crime areas, trends, patterns, peak demand periods, calls for service, and other information related to effective deployment of manpower and resources.* Works closely with the Police Communications Specialist to prepare and answer requests from the public, media, and outside organizations about trends and statistics.* Sets up databases and creates reports using Excel, Access, Crystal, Power BI, and Force Metrics.* Builds and maintains internal SharePoint websites and pages.* Prepares reports and supporting graphic display materials descriptive of research and recommendations.* Generates detailed and cartographically accurate maps using ArcGIS.* Daily analysis of crime patterns using Accurint software.* Generate SQL queries to records management systems and dispatch databases.* Extracts data from records management systems.* Interacts and coordinates with City IT, GIS, Communications, and Fire Departments.* Works with City Departments, County, State, Federal, and other agencies in the analysis of crime data.* Prepares statistical summations.* Conducts GIS-based analysis.* Compiles ad hoc intelligence bulletins and works closely with Intelligence Detectives to produce bulletins.* Makes presentations or training for command staff and community groups as needed.* Interacts with academic research partners, contributing data, draft analysis, or methodological input.* Works and interacts with all levels of personnel within the agency and provides a support role for a range of departmental initiatives.* Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies.**Qualifications:****Required Qualifications*** Minimum Associate’s degree in Crime Analysis, Analytics, GIS, Statistics, or related field.* Must be able to type and have experience using Excel, Crystal, PowerPoint, Power BI.* Training or certification in crime analysis or geographic profiling.* Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality with an understanding of general practices related to legal records management, data protection, and privacy/confidentiality.* Requires a high degree of computer literacy and relational database concepts.* Requires experience in data analysis, research methods, and statistics, preferably in a law enforcement capacity.* Requires the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing ideas/concepts, findings/results, interpretations, and evaluations.* The position requires high levels of interaction with patrol and investigative personnel.**Preferred Qualifications*** Previous law enforcement experience as a Crime Analyst is preferred.* Advanced GIS skills include Spatial Analysis, Model Builder, or Python Scripting.* Knowledge of collection and research techniques of various social media preferred.* Strong problem-solving skills with an interest and ability to conduct analysis.* Academic and/or working experience with GIS; experience with ESRI products preferred.* Knowledge of internet-based research, crime management systems, and open source/social media platforms and databases.* Experience performing complex real-time criminal intelligence research and analysis work.**Physical Requirements**Hearing/Speaking - Expressing and/or receiving information by means of spoken word are both necessary to converse with internal and external customers including co-workers, citizens, and applicants.Visual Abilities – the ability to perceive via eyesight is required for this position:* Acuity, far – clarity of vision at 20 feet or more.
