The department serves approximately 400 undergraduate majors and 30 graduate (master and doctoral) students in addition to 9 full-time and several part-time faculty members. The department head leads the unit, provides strategic leadership to the department, manages the budget, mentor’s faculty, supports the advancement of teaching and research excellence, advances initiatives geared to student recruitment and retention, creates appropriate new academic programs, promotes the work of the department, works to advance the College and University’s strategic plans, and performs other responsibilities as appropriate to the role. The department head is a 12-month administrative appointment that reports to the Dean of the College of Juvenile Justice. The academic rank for this position will be Associate or Full Professor.***The salary is determined in accordance with the University’s compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates’ education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position.*****Responsibilities:*** Ensure the quality of academic programs and services.* Managing faculty and staff.* Manage the budget and fiscal resources.* Support strategic initiatives at the department, college, and university levels.* Support curriculum development.* Promote collegiality.* Support assessment of student and program outcomes.* Support recruitment, retention, and graduation efforts of students.* Address student and/or faculty grievances or other concerns.* Performs other duties as assigned.**Required Education and Experience:*** Ph.D. in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a closely related field.* Scholarly record commensurate with the appointment at the rank of tenured Associate or Full Professor upon appointment.* At least 2 years of administrative experience.* Evidence of effective leadership skills.**Preferred Qualifications:*** 3+ years of administrative experience.* Experience managing a departmental budget.* Successful at securing external funding.**Job Posting Close Date:*** Until Filled**Required Attachments:**Please attach all required documents listed belowin the attachment box labeled as either “Resume/CV or Resume/Cover Letter” on the application.
